My broadband is slow, at the moment, hopefully in a few weeks it will immprove as I've moved to Sky Fibre Optic, and it's cheaper than my contract with talk Talk:

I have also changed the DNS addresses in the modem to a closer DNS.

From my Livebox advanced settings : "The Orange DNS servers are configured by default and cannot be modified on the Livebox".....bummer...

It's the same on the sky hubs/by home hubs that's why I like to use my own kit.

You can always change the DNS address in the computer network settings.

And another out in the country...

It's usually a bit better than that though. Not a lot, a little...

Take comfort from the fact that 12% of France enjoys* even slower speeds.

Does talk talk allow you to use you're own modem/router?

If not can you change the DNS servers ?

On their normal broadband, I use my own router, a DrayTek Vigor 2710. The only problem is if they need to run a diagnostic, on the line, they can't pick up that router so I have to switch back to theirs.

Last time I in the Auvergne region of central France they never had a land line

There is a tiny stone hut on the edge of a bluff in the Cantal mountain range in the Auvergne region of central France,

More than 3,000 burons once peppered the hills of the Auvergne. Until the 1950s, these small stone shelters were used by dairy farmers to produce and store salers, a nutty, buttery cheese named after the local breed of cattle. Now only 200 burons remain.

Many are in ruins, some have been transformed into rustic restaurants or refuges for walkers, three continue to produce cheese and one has been converted into a unique holiday home, billed as a "cure for modern living".

The Auvergne is one of the least populated regions in Europe – there are five cows to every person in the Cantal.
