I have had the second Invacom quattro c120 pack up on me last week. I had a spare Inverto Black Pro, which also did not work on Horizontal.

When Í tried to get it replaced, I was told, they are not produced anymore as are the Invacom lnb's.

What is the alternative other than SWM, which cost about 10 times what the others would be?

Get a 40mm quattro LNB and cut the feed horn from it. Then transplant the C120 fitting from an Invacom LNB onto it.

Thanks, has somebody done that before?

Yes, there are several members of this forum done that type of transplant with C120 flange onto the neck of a 40mm collar LNB.

I have used a saw and spliced in a universal LNB. Simply cut off the straight pipe section, and cut the pipe section of the universal LNB. My universal LNG was mounted on a GREGORIAN dish, to plug had to point up. Used a cola bottle for rain protection though... I can ad a picture, this is no problem.

Note, a problem is that you have to water proof the installation, a problem is that sppiders crawl inside the funnel so install a CAP! They loved to build nest inside the LNB pipe thus blocking the signal.

The transplant is no problem, the important thing is you make it as flush as possible. LNB plug MUST point downwards or upwards accurately.
I simply used a hack saw and some TEC7 to hold it in place. But a metal clamp would be advisable.

Sorry, no pic in my phone. This is how I did it:

Funnel - Magnetic Polarizer - Old style LNB

Funnel - Magnetic Polarizer - Universal LNB

Note that the magnetic polarizer can have it's power supply cut off, and you drill it out slightly this using the magnetic polaricer as a splice. Then I filled it up with TEC7 to hold the splice in place. Worked sweet!

And, please, try not quote yourself too much, it sounds awkward . We had one "Italian man" doing that.... he is actually continues to do that, but on other forums :D not here.

No problem, some computer problem here because of slow connection, and I could not delete posted message. Will try to edit them or delete, making one reply :)

Here is my splice, the problem with this setup is that the plug is UP, which is no good concerning weather. Also it creates some shade. But the boom is in the way. Note: This is a double universal LNB, as I intended using two tuners... therefore I have two cables. The old polarizer is only used as a jount, it has a copper coil around it I removed.

I personally think that you loose lots of useful signal, as LNB and bottle-cover shades signal. But, if you are aiming strong satellite than you still have lots of signal strength in reserve.

The area the LNB blocks is only a small percentage, like 1 or 2 percent I assume of the mirror. It's very narrow. So it's not really a big deal. It was kinda an experiment as I allready had this dish cemented in the ground. This dish gave much better signal than a similar size offset dish. Since it worked so well I never considered to buy a new one as it worked great! :)

Some users are fighting to get additional 1-2% of useful signal.

I would like to add that I have used OWATROL oil on the LNB in order to prevent moisture and water ingress. There is a challenge to water proof this setup.

Originally an universal LNB will have a plastic lid with an O ring to prevent water ingress. Now you have to make your own...

What I ended up with was to drill a 1mm drain hole in the bottom of the funnel, and then i cut a lid from a ice cream box and glued it to the funnel with TEC7. (Glued to the largest diametre of the funnel) In order to secure the pipe from the universal LNB, you may use two component rapid epoxy glue. First I used hot melting glue, but too weak.

The drain hole is to get rid of condensation that may accumulate. It is also a good idea to keep the satellite receiver on so some heat is created in the LNB to avoid moisture.

Originally I only had a membrane of clear tape inside the funnel at the narrow part, but condensation formed. Also spiders loved building a nest inside repeatedly...

I found a similar used dish for £20, so I am hoping to pick it up. The dish is made from aluminium, hence little corrosion problem.
This type of gregorian antenna gives higher efficiency than an ordinary offset dish.

The plastic bottle gives next to nothing signal loss, but the LNB and cable is in the path... I hope to pick up the new antenna in a week.
Plan is to clamp an aluminium beam on the underside of the existing beam, then tapping and screwing the beam securely in place using several bolts.
Afterwards I can cut the original beam thus making space to mount the LNB downwards, and it should be in exact location.

I only have £20 for this project, and I have an old universal LNB. I might also not have to alter the beam if I use a LNB with a shorter house, the double output was somewhat longer so if using a single output I probably can mount it downwards! :-)
