Morning guys.

Just wondering how one should waterproof the connection when bolting a c120 feedhorn and lnb together...its bare metal to metal, somehow i think an O-ring or something is neccessary....please advise....

Most C120 LNB's will have a circular groove cut into the surface that is bolted to the feed. Normally, there is an O ring supplied with the LNB to use in the circular groove

Probably best to use both (and, BTW, that's silicone and not "silicon" sealant!) - but make sure it's the non-acidic type and don't let it get inside the feedhorn area.

Edited: you can find all sorts of diameters and thicknesses of "O" rings on ebay - and they cost "peanuts"

I used the O ring and taped the outer edge with amalgamating tape.

I would not use the silicone sealant, as it will (or may) make it very hard to replace or remove the LNB if you have to.

And most automotive stores may carry an "O" ring of the proper size and thickness.

They might carry them where you live, but here not in the UK unless you are "in the trade" and "know someone" - most times the best you might get is an expensive pack of mixed sizes", or even more expensive ones from a main dealer

If you mean Halfords then I agree but there are independent motor factors out there that are much more helpful.

Often the groove in the LNB is too shallow for a good seal with the universal grommets

Very good and quite cheap - but quite a long delivery time, and so it would probably be coming from China anyway??

OTOH, I already have at least one similar set that came from Lidl several years ago - rings from that set have also been used for other reasons since then.

Best thing to do is to get a suitable LNB, see if it comes with a suitable ring - but if not then measure the ring diameter and look for another that's probably a slightly different / larger thickness.

Well you could use the sealant by spreading a thin layer on one part, then let it dry for a day or so, this would make it's own gasket.

Permatex makes a liquid gasket, and it's removable.

Since the Laminas is an offset reflector, simply invert it on the motor, drill a hole in the feed cover , et voila !
