Hallo my dish has stopped moving and is stuck on sat 19.e. Friend tried to unscrew f connector, covered by rubber boot but won't budge, to check with voltmeter if power going to motor. I am getting signal from lnb so would that mean power via single cable is going to motor and there is some other reason eg corroded connection? This is given in stab manual as possible cause of motor not moving. How can I get connection unscrewed to check without breaking cable?

Do you have an 11mm spanner, or has your friend just tried to loosen the connector with his fingers?

If using a spanner, try to break the adhesion by the counter-intuitive means of tightening very slightly before attempting to unscrew. And repeat.

You mean: signal from LNB, going through the motor?
Then, of course, it is no cable connection problem. The loop through to the LNB goes through the electronic board of the motor, in the motors I've seen.

So, how did you check the signal from your LNB? Through motor, or not?

I've had this myself with a less than sturdy connection at the motor end of the cable from the receiver: The signal gets through, but the motor current doesn't. Took me ages to diagnose because it seems anomalous at first.

OK, that is a curious situation.

How did you diagnose that in the end? Check voltage at the LNB cable, while you gave a motor command, and the motor tried to 'start up'?
So that a big voltage drop would be visible?

Or measure all cable resistance, at the LNB cable; while the cable at the receiver end is shorted (or vice versa)?

I'm just curious...

Nothing so clever - It was Patio mounted and easily accessible, so the simple empirical expedient of "suck it and see" along with a dose of suspicion led to me remaking that connection. It wasn't corroded, but it was definitely a loose fit, so I used a pair of fine nose piers to double over the tip of the cable centre core, then filed it down bit by bit untiI I achieved a tight fit. Problem solved.

Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
Give it a quick shot of WD-40 and wait a few, then try to remove the connector, if badly corroded it could mean that rust has got up inside the connection and it would be a job replacing the "F" connector on the motor.
