News just coming through that Captain Sir Tom Moore has just died. He had contracted Covid-19 and been taken to hospital last weekend. Previously he had been under treatment for pneumonia and as a result not been able to receive a coronavirus vaccination.

RIP Sir Tom

I suspect he might have picked up the pneumonia following his trip to Barbados, and the covid mugged him whilst at the hospital.

RIP

Pneumonia is the main symptom of Covid-19, so was it just Pneumonia or did he have Covid all along?

I'm not sure it is. A cough certainly, but pneumonia normally means sticky fluid that you can use for wallpapering, if so inclined.

The new variants of coronavirus, including the South African one have slightly different symptoms depending on how long the person has had it.

I had a friend who on February 18th 2020 died of supposed pneumonia and I am convinced that it was Covid which at that time had not been identified. It was following that funeral that I and others began with mild symptoms however by the time I had an antibody test in July I was showing no antibodies at all so it may not have been.

Pneumonia is why many patients have to be put onto ventilators because they are unable to breath by themselves.

Covid causes a different inflammation to the lungs than bacterial or other viral infections. One reason why the tests for the underlying symptoms are vital, with anyone with symptomatic effects specifically warned not to make their way to A+E but wait for safe testing away from those already admitted.
