Short answer: no you need the android or iOS app
Long answer: yes, you can use any SIP client for calls (texts wont work tho) but you need to login to the FreedomPop app on an android phone then backup the app/use a file explorer on a PC to get into the android settings to extract the username, password and server details from the app then you can use any SIP client on any phone, laptop or PC.
The FreedomPop app is a locked down version of either CSIPSimple or Linphone and at the moment it's the only way to send or receive SMS text

Sorry for waking this thread back up but I received an email the other day:

I know it says Certified Pre-owned, that is American for factory refurbished/factory reconditioned (as far as I can work out).

Add VAT and it's just under £72, delivered with a returns policy/warranty.

I think I might order a couple for the kids before they sell out.

It's a cheap enough phone with a nice screen and free service, one of those pay once and forget about it deals, they'll hardly be off wifi anyway so they won't eat into the free data.

Here's a link to the offer from the email: http://tidd.ly/f0c52d1b

I remember there was the deal One2One Precept Max, unlimited minutes, certain people were using their phones as baby monitors....... mental so they capped the minutes with a fair abuse policy.

Sounds like Three's "The One Plan", where they offered unlimited data, Mobile and Tethered, I loved it as at the time the slow-as-hell ADSL was outpaced by it so I used my mobile as a modem, but people abused it downloading terabytes of data in a month, and Three ended the plan and put limits on their tethering...
