A U.S. weather satellite that retired eight years ago has fallen apart in orbit, breaking into at least 16 pieces, according to government representatives.

We may see more and more of these orbital smashups in the coming years.

Sounds like the beginning of the domino effect as pieces of space debris smash into other satellites causing more space debris.

Won't be long until we have a perfect shield of shattered satellites to stop further space exploration.

I have been trying to persuade my local 'traveller' that there is a wealth of opportunity up in space..... he was not that interested, of course now that the government has given permission for launches from the UK this dream is fast becoming a reality
