My lovely old TM5402 has died. Yet another bit of kit that has succumbed to bulging caps - in what appears to be the audio & vision section though which is a bit odd. It was working fine then changed satellite & no audio or video on any channel at all.

Its the 2 caps nearest that white plug centre left

Guess I need to buy myself a new receive now. :(

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Can't you just change the caps to see if that fixes the problem - worth a shot for a quid or so?
PS: did you try unplugging and reseating the cable connectors in the AV area - might conceivably be connector looseness or corrosion?

I try to avoid soldering - I normally end up burning my fingers :D

Large caps should be easy to remove and replace (even for me with my clumsey fingers) - use a smallish soldering iron and solder sucker to get the old ones out, and then the new ones should slot in easily for soldering.
Or, ask Rusty if he could repair the unit for you - he's good at that!

Yeah, I would also try to replace the caps. If the caps are blown, there's a good chance that new ones will fix the problem.

If you do decide to try to replace the caps, make sure they are 105C rated.

A Octagon SX88+ will be a good replacement for under £50 :)

For the time being Ive had a delve in the back of the garage & found the box of receivers. Half of which dont bloody work........ I think I need to have a clear out of the scrap....

One has been resurrected though - an old Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra DVB-S only heap of crap.

All the analogue only stuff went in the scrap bin up the recycling centre late 2012. There may be a Pace cheeseblock one somewhere but it wasnt with the other receivers. Ive still got my old analogue/digital Echostar3000 somewhere

Yeah gods what a bloody awful receiver this is these days! Slow to respond to rc commands, desperately slow to blind scan, and only finds a few dozen fta DVB-S channels on Hotbird these days. I must have summat better somewhere - then this one can join its bretheren in the scrap pile. :-rofl2

Can you "find room" for a TM 5500 DAPCI ( it can drive a dual axis motor combo)? If so, it's your's for the P&P costs!

The old Skybox F5 will be heading in the direction of the recycling bins at Kelso tip as that one doesnt work either....... FFS this is getting ridiculous.

Power supply this time - can you see the main problem?!

Or, for that matter, anyone else.
