Hi All,

I'm new here :)

Could someone please help me out? I'm about to install a new satellite system in my house and I've been thinking of getting 3 separate LNBs on a single dish for Astra 28.2E, Astra 19.2E and Hotbird 13.0E. Could someone please advise what dish size I need to get and maybe recommend a good dish along with a holder for those LNBs? I live in Manchester.

Thansk a lot!

Welcome to the forum!

Personally I'd go for an 80cm dish if you can. A 60cm is doable if space is a limiting factor.

I like the Triax TD88 and their 4 multi LNB accessory. It can be a bit of a pain to set up but once it's done I find it very good.

A cheaper alternative is to use these kind of multi-LNB brackets, commonly found on eBay. Black Ultra single LNBs have long necks and make fine tuning and adjusting the LNBs for best reception much easier on that bracket.

Go for at least 80cm as timo_w2s says. I had a 85cm Technomate dish with the cheap bracket as shown in the post above mine. The installer will focus the dish on 19.2e. Expect an installer to charge you £200 for the job.

So there's no need to get a 1m dish or bigger? Good. Thanks for your help.

I hope to find someone who will install this cheaper :)

Cheapest (and most satisfying) way is to do it yourself.

In doing so, you could consider an alternative approach of an 80cm (ish) dish with a DiSEqC Motor: The cost won't be much higher and you'll have many more Satellites to play with :)

Costs:

Plan A requires a multi-bracket and three LNBs

Plan B loses two of the LNBs and the bracket, but requires a Motor

Tivu, I'm kind of new to this satellite world and lots of things confuse me :) So, does this DiSEqC Motor need to be installed with a DiSEqC or can it be intalled with a multiswitch? I've been planning to use those 3 LNBs with a multiswitch to direct the signal to 5 rooms, just as shown here (blue lines represent current wiring to my rooms, green lines come from quadro LNBs and an aerial):

I would be happy if you could provide me with another solution (eg. via DiSEqC).
Thanks

Looking at the new information, your original proposal is far more appropriate.

Here is one I made earlier 28.2 east + 19.2 east + 13 east on a 88cm x 78cm mesh dish.

Ok thanks Tive. Just one more question. Could you please look at the schematics from my above post. In my walls there are 3 cables going to 2 TV/SAT sockets and 2 cables to 3 remaining sockets. Is this necessary to have 3 cables? I want to recored some channels and watch some others (PVR), but 3 cables? Can it be because 2 will go to the sat receiver and another is for the aerial?

Nice one william! Looks awesome. I believe it works as good as it looks :)

Home made Lnb brackets made from aluminium strip from car spare parts retail outlets.DSCF0549.JPG

This was a set up from 4 years ago I have since motorised the dish,

One thing to consider is a 4 Lnb set up 28E + 19E + 13E + 7E or 5E.

I see a white Sharp LNB there, they where very good back in the day.

DSCN0577.JPG Yes the Sharp Lnb is still working on this 60cm set up pulling in Hotbird @ 13 east now :)
This goes to a 4 way DiSEqC switch for 19.2 east + 13 east on the 60cm + 28.2 east from a 45cm with a twin Lnb & a 4th Lnb from the twin Lnb on the 88cm motorised dish.

They look nice. Maybe you could come over and install my dish? :) :)

What about these cabling I posted above? Any idea?

Aslo, is a mesh dish better than the normal?

Yes, the third cable is for Freeview via an aerial. Rooms 3, 4 and 5 would only have access to satellite in that diagram (assuming they are 2 satellite cables for a PVR, can't make out the text in the image).

A mesh dish is fine for DTH satellites in the UK a solid dish will also suffice,
Cable I use either Webro WF100 or RG6 for short runs.

I wasn't really asking about the cable types william :) but thanks anyway. I appreciate your input. All I know is thay they are black coax cable (they were not installed by myself).

I think timo answered my question. Thanks. However I still don't understand one thing. If I use a multiswitch, there would be all 3 satelites and an aerial signal coming through just 1 cable to the sockets, right? So there's not need for more cables, right?

If the cables are already fitted then you need to make sure they are decent satellite grade quality, especially for longer runs. Satellite cable will have foil around the centre insulator as well as the usual copper braid, which is usually standard these days but our house still has the standard "TV aerial" cable embedded in the walls.

I don't know enough about that multiswitch, but I would have thought two cables would be enough for each room, one cable carrying satellite and freeview combined, and another cable for a second satellite feed (it's not easy or very efficient to combine two satellite feeds in one cable, but combining freeview and satellite is quite standard although it does create a little more loss).

Make sure you get Quattro Lnb's for your multi-switch as I have seen some people buy Quad Lnb's & wonder why they don't work with a multi-switch
If the cable is not double screened as mention by timo_w2s then change the cabling for low loss satellite WF100 type cable.

Two cables from the multiswitch will be fine although if you add a terrestrial input into the switch as the TV signal is also multiplexed with the output sat signal if you wish to use the combined tv signal you will need to buy suitable wall plates for each room which will be able to split the tv & sat signal.

As for the cable that is already installed, if its decent quality cable it should have the type and brand printed on the side of the cable.
