Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
FWIW, I have never needed to move the limit switches on either of the Alsat motors, and so I never have.

OTOH, this part of the thread has made me consider whether it might be worth trying that on the dish with the Gibby on it to see if the "apparent limit of reception" at around is actually a hard limit stop, and not just the edge of the roof of the house behind our property?. Main issue there would however be the need to remove the dish from the motor - and that's a problem because of the size & weight, and so I suspect it won't be done!

And did the same reset, also work on the other motor?
So, I finally had a chance to try the old motor. The fix that got the new motor working again (pressing the manual East and West buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds) did not work with the old motor. However, it appears that the local guy was right, he said the problem was that a West limit had been set with the dish pointing at 28E, because when I selected Disable Limits all was good, the motor once gain started turning westward as it should.

I may have wasted money for a new motor but I learned something and now have a spare motor.

Thanks to all for the help!

Glad you're finally sorted.

All sensible hobbyists have a spare motor!

Well, good local guy you have there! :)

I'll remember the disable limits option, for cases like these, for the future.

Still strange, that the limit was set anyway. And not only once, but twice, with your two motors....

Two motors but one receiver, I suppose the receiver imposed the west limit on both motors. The strange thing is that I was moving the new motor westward without problems for the first 30 minutes and then it stopped going west (except with the Go to Reference command) until the reset. The only explanation I can think of is that the limit only activated when the motor was turned east of the west limit (when I moved the dish to 28E). And all this assumes that the Go to Reference command is not affected by any limit set, as the local guy believes. And as you say, very strange that any limit at all was set, I definitely did not set it.
