Hi everyone,

I'd like to know if anyone here knows for sure whether or not Canal Digital Denmark pairs their viewing cards (Conax) to their receivers or not. I currently have a Canal Digital DK receiver and a genuine card with a valid subscription, but unfortunately the receiver provided by Canal Digital is absolutely pants. It is truly awful - regularly fails to turn itself on when programmed in VCR mode, when it does turn itself on it usually fails to set itself to the right channel, its tuner is so poor that the picture starts breaking up if quality goes just below 55%... well, you get the idea, it's absolutely rubbish. It would be lovely to be able to swap it for a Conax compatible receiver, but I read somewhere that the viewing card might be paired to the receiver. Canal Digital Dk says that you have to use their receivers, but I've also read somewhere that the card would work in any Conax Receiver or Cam.
Does anyone know the answer for sure, as I don't feel like investing in a receiver if it turns out that I can't use it afterwards.
Thanks in advance for your help - if you can help, that is :)

I presume any Linux CS receiver with an appropriate soft cam would work. Best to get confirmation before paying out for a box.

I used to have a Finnish and a Danish CD card, both of which worked in Dreamboxes (or any other Conax compatible receiver). And a friend in Finland still has his CD card in his 6 year old DM7000. What I don't know, however, is whether there are newer cards that do restrict themselves to their own receivers.

Thanks for that, Captain Jack. Much appreciated. It's not a definite answer, but it's at least a step forward. Does anyone have any more info on that issue?

I'll ask my friend in Finland. How old is your card?

I could be wrong but I had a feeling the HD channels where paired and non HD channels or cards without HD channels enabled where not. There was some talk about it a few years ago anyway. I have a Finnish subscription for the basic SD channels and it works in any receiver. Never done any pairing but the card is probably about 2 or 3 years old now.

Thanks for that, Timo. What you say about the SD/HD channels makes a lot of sense, as it seems to be what a lot of providers are doing these days. Thanks again for your time and info, Timo and Captain Jack.

Thanks Nano. That's a different model from the one I've got, and it does look recent, so with a bit of luck it'll perform better than my current shoe-box (can hardly be worse, mind you! :-doh2.) It's on "Best offer", so I'll try to get it down to a decent price. Thanks very much buddy, you're a star.
Thanks for the offer, Jmal. I'll try to get the new one for a decent price first, as it says it comes with a one-year-warrantee. But I'll get back to you if it doesn't work out. Cheers everyone.

Where can I buy a sub to Canal Digital Norway? I would be intersted for TV2 PL HD for the footy this year.
I checked the website and the price for Norwegian residents is NOK 4500 ish. Will they send the card and box abroad?

I wouldn't count on that. In other words, no they won't.
You literally have two options. Either you buy it through a UK retailer (be prepared to pay mega big bucks, though), which you will easily find online, or you know someone in Norway and you ask them to get a subscription in their name, using their own adress and bank details, and they'll send you the receiver and the box. It's by far the least expensive option. But of course you need to know someone in Norway...

The card is not paired with the tuner. If it was, it could be omitted by defining the boxkey in a softcam.

Another question.. Who sends PL on 28,2E? Why would one want the Norwegian PL channel?

It's all about watching English Premier League games live at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, on TV2 Norway you can watch a morning, 3x 3pm kick offs and an evening game at 5.15 - mostly in English.

Highly sought after...

Irish..
