I think that you're getting the wrong end of the stick, to acivate a FTV card you need a Sky digibox, you can then use the card in your Dreambox, but you will only get what the card entitles you to, nothing more.

BBC1 and BBC2 are FTA (Free to Air) and not FTV (Free to View) which means that you can pick them up with any receiver with no modifications and no card.

ITV1, Channel4 and Five are encrypted in ND$, but will be opened with the official $ky FTV card.

Don't buy a dodgy second-hand card off eBay (as your regionalised viewing will be set to that of the original owner!), or one of the new cards from the same place where some thieving git charges you 0.99p to buy the website address either, get one direct from $ky at:-

http://www.freesatfromsky.com/

Check the Q+A page for details of the £20 card-only option.

Be interesting, not sure whether it would work and you would need to guess a box id.

Got NewcamD set up on latest Hydra image using this guide here:

h**p://vvv.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=236746&page=2

but when starting the cardserver get error that "box id not paired with card"

Using my FTA card daily on a normal box getting the FTA channels 1-5.

... close but no cigar

I've been messing with gbox etc for a few weeks and decided to give it a rest untill the smoke cleared. Now it has, I intend to give it another go with some other images on the DB7000. Aye, but heres the rub. I dont have sly, never had never will. What I do have though is a digibox and card that has been married to the box at sometime that only picks up FTA shite i.e JML etc No beeb 1,2, 3 etc I dont know why this is as I have another card that when tried in the same didibox just says not authorised.

Should the sly card works as an FTA card allowing me access to ITV, C5 etc or will it only function as it does in the digibox i.e just shopping channels? I ask before I spend to much time progressing the project.

It probably needs to sit in the box for a 24hr period to update, then it should get the FTV channels.

Why don't you get the number off your working box and use that then?

Haven't visited your link, but you must use the ID straight off the digibox, without converting to hex.

Just ordered one, so I'll see if it works "out of the box" (i.e. without initializing it first in a sky box) ;)

Anyone know what happens if you register two cards to the same box?

FWIW, the lass on the phone was at pains to point out that they "...will replace the card for three years from point of purchase, if for security reasons they need to reissue all viewing cards...".

Did put in the the Box ID as is, but only got a freeview card which doesn't seem to be married a specific digbox - using same card i two different digboxes.

Some confusion here...?

A $ky card won't work if it's not activated. I was just wondering if you could re-use an existing, valid BOXID from a digibox in NewcamD, and then activate your new card in the Dreambox.

Interesting to have it confirmed that more than one card can be activated in a single digibox. Sounds logical. I bet it's also true that only the second card will then be 'matched'. Box to card... that's GOT to be a 1:1 relationship.

It's true that an FTV card will work in any digibox, but it's also a fact that a FTV card is still 'paired' to a single, unique digibox.

I proved this to myself just this weekend when trying to watch the free Film Four weekend. The unmatched box said 'wrong card' and the matched box said 'upgrade subscription'.
