No you have to format the disk to Ext3 not just name it that. Ntfs/fat32 are Windows. Ext3 is Linux/enigma2. You will need to use a program like paragon partition manager to format the disk to ext3, as some of the program's can only format in Windows extensions types.

Look at the picture you will see what i mean.

I'm also having trouble with box initialising hdd, so took drive out and popped it in caddy, got Paragon running, but when I go to format there is no option for ext3, only NTSF, Fat32 and Apple Hsf. :(

Download gParted and use that.

GParted -- Live CD/USB/PXE/HD

You will be able to create a live CD which you can boot your pc off. I would recommend you disconnect all the HDDs on your pc other than the one you are going to format and use in your dreambox. That way it will make sure you dont wreck your pcs drives if you press a wrong button.

You don't need an external program, just initialize your disk from the HDD menu on your DM and it should be formated as EXT3. Then use an FTP program like Filezilla, connect to your stb and create a directory in your hdd called movie (some enigma2 images have a built in filebrowser that will work quite the same so you might not even need Filezilla or so). The receiver if it does not see a movie directory does not know where to record!

I've had more DM800HD boxes than i care to remember. They are notorious for issues when it comes to initializing the HDD, your method works with some images, sometimes it doesn't.

If it doesn't work with a particular image somtimes formatting the hdd outside of the receiver is all it needs. Theres nothing wrong with either way of doing it.
