By all accounts, the SX88+ and the Edision Primo are the same underneath the skin!

I'll buy on price.

It's very very similar (like the Denys U2C)
The SX88 does not have a scart socket,
and I do not know if the SX Plus is going to have one.

I do not know how is the service for edision for SW.

I can't see the point of fitting a SCART socket.

That's very old technology!

As for Software, Octagon's approach is a double-edged sword: Yes, they are responsive and quick to release updates, but there have been so many it makes it seem as if the originals releases weren't sufficiently exhaustively tested.

I took delivery of this box last week. Have just had a quick play around, and can confirm that the audio works on the French multistream channels at 5W, and the T2-MI streams on 4.8E work too.
Can I ask where you bought it from, I can't see this box for sale anywhere.

They would have been better off spending that money on a LNB passthrough, though I guess there might be some countries where this box will be sold that still have CRTs?

Doesn't seem that long ago I remember the first Scart TV's being sold and a Scart cable was very expensive!

Lots of sources

Edision PRIMO IP S2 Linux is the cheapest.

Nothing comes up on a Google UK search as no British Mainland suppliers have it, but there's any number of them in Germany, Greece etc.

So, has anyone actually tried the Primo yet?

Still not decided whether to take the plunge, at around €60 inc. VAT and Delivery, or to wait for the Octagon SX88+ which, considering the price of the SX88, is going to be a further €20 or so.

Looks an interesting box, though connectivity looks limited and a bit small, I'm waiting for one to show up for sale in the UK or grab the Octagon when that's available. But that looks even more limited.

@mw963 - I assume you're the same person I was talking to about this box over on DS!

As I said further up this thread, I recently took delivery of the Edision Primo S2 in the UK.

First impressions are very good, bearing in mind the cost and size of the device (it's tiny!). The standout feature for me is of course the DD+ sound, but the remote is excellent too. I know this isn't a dealbreaker for many people, but the button placement is very intuitive - it has a similar layout to Sky's remotes, along with the ability to learn functions from other RCUs (and store them on 5 buttons at the top).

Booting from cold takes 15-20 seconds and the setup procedure is very straightforward. It has all the usual features for these boxes - IPTV compatibility, YouTube etc, and came pre-programmed to Astra 1 - with the German channels listed at the start of the channel list. Satellites are organised by band, so you have (for example) 'Eutelsat 5WA Ku' and 'Eutelsat 5WA Ka'. Scrolling through all of these is a little frustrating when attempting an individual TP scan, but other than that, the tuning/installation process is again fairly easy. Like last year's Octogon box, I suspect the multistream codes are pre-programmed, but I've no way to check as it's currently working on every multistream TP available through my Diseqc switch. Software updates are pushed over IP: a message will appear after booting up asking whether you want to upgrade. The latest update was 10th Feb.

I haven't tried blindscan etc as I prefer to use the TBS6522 on my PC - this box is just for the kitchen. I'd place the sensitivity of the tuner between that of a Foxsat HDR and the TBS6522 - both of which are known to be pretty good. One negative: the picture output seems slightly dark, though this has improved with the latest software update. The simple solution is to just adjust the input-specific picture settings on your AVR/TV.

Happy to answer any more questions if you've got them!

I haven't really (it's not something I use), but Internet Radio is there. It is initially organised by category (rock, decades etc) and you press the red button to search for a station. The station selection doesn't appear as broad as it is on proper internet radios (or my AV receiver) - it doesn't have any of the BBC stations, and few UK commercial stations. You might be able to add these manually as an m3u playlist, though (or just use their satellite feeds).

Here's a little walk-through of the French channels & menus (towards the end) _

It's chiefly Italian Radio Stations she wants.

Have you tried Internet Radio, which is, I believe, an advertised feature - and one my wife is keen to use?

there is nothing new compared to the SX88; Internet radios work perfectly too.Italian Radio.jpg

The French TV sound is fixed on the Edision PRIMO IP S2 Linux thats new and great.

Yes, I'm leaning towards the Edision .... too many firmware updates on the SX88 suggest insufficiently robust testing (And too much reliance on bug reports from users).

I'll still wait until the SX88+ is released and reported on, though.

The SX88/SX88+ looks too small for me.

Are you driving a motor with it?

I always worry about how beefy these small units are at sourcing enough current to cope with a motor.
