Here is some info on freesat uk for you the main website is _www.freesat.co.uk all channels are FTA there is two HD channels BBC HD & ITV HD to access ITV HD you must press the red button when prompted when viewing itv 1 SD when a program is available in HD,

Freesat has it's own EPG and i have a humax freesat receiver myself this can also be used on other satellites and has diseqc controls and can be used with a motorized dish, Apart from the humax the other freesat receiver can not add channels so can only be used on freesat,

Five & fiver & five us will be on freesat very soon (within 3 months) when they get space on astra 2d and will leave their current home on astra 2c this has been confirmed to me by ch5 tech department,

At the moment the receiver you can get are below use the links to see photos of the receivers and the user guides for them:
Humax foxsat-hd : _www.humaxdigital.com/freesat/
Grundig HD & SD : _http://www.grundigdigital.co.uk/
Bush SD & HD : _htp://www.bushdigital.co.uk/
Goodmans SD & HD : _http://www.goodmansdigital.co.uk/

There will also be a panasonic tv with freesat built in which is due out very soon : _http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/711712/index.html#anker_711712

I'm lost...what is it that I can get through FreeSat that I can't get through any receiver picking up FTA channels from Astra 28.2E? (Apart from the HD channels if I've got a SD receiver)

A seven day EPG is one major advantage, soon with DVR facilities, also dedicated text and interactive service.

If you are not interested in either of those, then nothing much extra.

I set up my first satellite system only yesterday evening, so I haven't investigated it much yet (and I'm at work now). I seemed to have an EPG - are you saying that it wouldn't show me programmes much into the future? And if I add a new channel that's not in the presets, will I get EPG information at all?

Without other parts like a dish lnb cable you will pickup diddly squat. More info required, e.g where is your dish pointing.

80cm dish, 2 LBN 19.2E and 28.2E, Sradix HS-410CI HD ready signal ox

This week I had an 80cm dish installed with 2 LNBs and set to 19.2E and 28.2E. I am situated in North eastern Switzerland and of all the 2400 channels I downloaded, none were of the UK freesat channels I so want to obtain. It is all new equipment and wondering do I need to buy a viewing card for it.
Thanks for any help here.

Does anyone know whether the Receiver supplied by Orange [in France] to receive the French TNT Sat Channels can be tuned to other satellites to receive their FTA channels? Fransat and TNTsat boxes both support Diseqc 1.0 and thus provide a very useful set up for expats wanting to receive both French TNTSAT and British FTA programmes [One Dish with offset Lnb's for Astra's 1 and 2 and one Box] The Orange package 'which includes Internet and telephone' comes with its receiver pretuned to the TNT channels ,but little info.about it otherwise. I suspect that it does not support Diseqc. but if it does it would also be a useful box for expats.

Addendum to my earlier post. It also needs to be plugged into the phone line to activate reception

My understanding is that the Orange box gets its programmes through the phone line. I have a friend in France who complains that with Orange he is charged for the TV service but is too far from the exchange to receive them.

Well, being the 'pround owner' of an 'Orange' (Samsung made) satellite box, I can confirm that I also have too slow a broadband connection to receive on demand services, hence Orange substitutes the STB. Confusingly, when connected to my Wifi network (which it has to do to work) it still offers on demand movies (for a price). I think it receives the EPG via the broadband, hence the need for a connection. It has options to choose between, 5°W, 19°E and 13°E as an initial set up but I'm not sure if it supports diseqc. I can experiment for you, as I want to try setting it up on 19.2°E, though I have to work through the menus in French!! Really I'd like to get the viewing card clearing channels in my VU+ but have had no luck yet. You are charged for the service, but as part of your package so I think you pay a small rental chage for the STB each month.

Having now re set the Orange STB on 19.2°E and had a browse through the set up ('reglages') I can confirm that it does support diseqc switching. Now, if only I could get the card to work in the VU+!!

Hi sonnet pete.
Thanks for the info on the Orange receiver.I thought it must support diseqc to enable it select the three different satellites which provide the TNT bouquet. The problem I have then is how to use the menu to enable diseqc control .i suspect that you must have more informationon setting up the box than I have.
Regarding use of the Viaccess Card It appears to be the same card as is supplied with the Fransat and TNtsat boxes, also for the Bisat system for which I use a Humax receiver , But they are not interchangeable , although they all enable reception of the TNTsat channels with additional programs in the case of Bisat and Orangesat .

I bet I'm an older Grumpy old man than you!!!!!

From what I can ascertain GOM status is earned by effort and example, not just age. Regardless it seems to start at about 40 nowadays!

From what I remember, the set up screen offered diseqc : A, B, C, D and mini diseqc A and B. If I put the stb back on again in the next few days I'll try and take a screenshot and post it. Somewhere, I've got the user manual (though I suspect it's in the cubby hole, a vast and uncharted place!)

Paul's right, you have to earn GOM status, it's not yours by right through age qualification (though I'm in my 61st year). If you complain that todays music is 'too loud and unmelodic', you are well on your way to joining the club!!
