A client has been looking at uppgrading from HD to SkyQ based on the promotions (ha ha !)

His current system is a SkyQ box in a cupboard under the stairs and this feeds four televisions in the property through RF (with the Global 1:4 amplifier) and then global eye units to change channels. He has also run a HDMI distribution througout the property so all televisions get glorious HD as best as the Sky box can offer.

It's a three storey property as well wth the longest HD cable at 30M , but everything works.

If he goes for the Q upgrade, I doubt Sky will attempt to connect in the same way, and of course he will end up with Q minis in areas where only two can be on at any one time, irrespective of the range issues. (plus he is with Virgin for broadband, not Sky)

Does the Q main box have a i/o interface like the last of the HD boxes, or will he need to look at installing a IR blaster under the stairs as well ?

I can see this is going to be an expensive mistake in fettling without improving on the original, moreso if Sky replace his ageing Raven Mk2 to boot, making retrofitting a quad a bit of a nightmare.

Anybody ?
Might be able to answer that next week as we are having it fitted.
Got a Global Sky Q™ dSCR Interface for use with my Fibo 55cm to covert the Invacom quad to work with Q. Missus does not want another dish installed.

Hide "another" dish, OR hide the missus - your choice will depend on the "circumstances", &/or the thickness of your skull if you make the wrong choice::-rofl2

There isn't an IO on the Sky Q box, if you want to distribute, use a COFDM modulator, Triax or Technomate, they normally have IR extenders built in and can utilise the TV eyes, you may however need a power inserter to provide enough power for the amp, haven't tried running one through the Global loft amps.

Thanks, the HDMI distribution is already in place, I can't believe after all the faff of removing coaxial and RF components from the back of Sky boxes over the last few years, clients of theirs have to go and source third party equipment to put it back, just to be able to operate them remotely
