do you get much flex in the scaffold pole due to high winds? i used to have a 1.2m precision on a scaffold pole and mine use to move a fair bit in the wind. if i were to use 2" pole again i would brace it by fixing a length of angle iron to it.

Personally, I would be "somewhat concerned" about putting that Laminas dish in a position where it would be subject to high winds, and thus windloading, because of the combined effects of the thinness of the dish face and that of the mounting bracket on the rear of it - would have thought that one or other, or possibly both, will buckle under heavy windloading.

I hope I'm wrong in that respect, but, as they say "time will tell" - especially this weekend when the winds are forecast to be pretty strong.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

There should be an acceptable 'spring' in a scaffold pole to counter any buffeting winds, the three support locations on the wall should also help prevent damage, but I would expect periodic checking of the retaining bolts unless these are drilled through the wall with plates installed on the other side.

I've had my Laminas for well over 5 years and have yet to detect any problems due to windloading. However, it's only been mounted as a motorised dish and I avoid overtightening the motor to pole clamps. Obviously they aren't slack but I'd sooner have to make an adjustment to the longitude setting on the receiver than sweep up a broken dish. I usually realign the dish once a year.

Well guys - i finally did it....
My new Laminas OFC-1200 arrived on Friday and i managed to put it up yesterday (in between rain showers and crazy winds). It needs a minor alignment tweak, but all is well - getting 45w to 52e
I couldn't believe how light the dish was, I could lift it up one handed even with bracket / lnb poles and lnb - so was easy to get it up ladder onto motor.
Ive attached some pics for your enjoyment :)
Oh yes, i moved the bottom bracket as i DID need more clearance to accoomdate the larger size, and the fact the AZ bracket is in the centre of the Laminas.
I have a pic, of the Laminas, my Triax TD110 and Gibertini to show size differences....
you have a sexy dish there mate .well done

thank you everyone - time will tell - ive always been warned about winds and dishes - obviously its a concern for any dish owner...however, you can only do what you can in order to try and make it sensible and safe - of course theres a risk - but hopeflly the people that make the things take that into account and make them strong enough to handle the occasional crazy winds - at the end of the day, im in south London, not the coast, so these winds are occasional.

Dont worry, I will post any pics of the broken dish or holes in the wall IF it happens due to me not having done something right.

well we had 50mph winds in the night, and all seems good - thus far....signal is still 91% on Al Jazeera on 1W - thats what i setup on when it was a "bit" calmer...

@purplemarina the scaffold pole doesnt flex at all really as far as i can tell - maybe it was the weight of your dish that caused that? or your brackets positioned differently.

I think mine was further up the pole than yours, it didnt look like it was going to come down. but in the pursuit of weak feeds i felt that the dish moving was not going to help, so in time i upgraded to a 3inch pole for stability. now i worry about the wall coming down:-doh
