I went away on holiday earlier this month and when i returned found that my Azbox couldn't see any of the files in Movies (or Music for that matter). After rebooting a few times i finally managed to get it to see the files again, but when i try to play them they inevitably crash and disappear after a few minutes. If I ssh into the azbox with Yummy from my macbook i can sometimes see the files and sometimes not (in sync with whether they appear to be there on the receiver itself). i have tried to transfer them back to my macbook, and they generally stall half way through, although strangely this morning i have managed to transfer one 250Mb file successfully.
I guess I'm going to have to reformat my hard disc but am loathe to do so without being able to preserve my files an d I'm not even sure if this will actually fix the problem.I've upgrade the fiormware to latest version - the one with the you tube fix, btw.
Has anyone else experienced/solved this prob, or can anyone suggest another fix that doesn't destroy all my movie files

Well in the absence of any suggestions i decided to reformat the hard disc - no good unfortunately cos the receiver gets stuck in disk checking mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Okay, I've done that.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll also try taking out the hard disc and I'll post the results. Might as well cos it's not working at all now!

Sorry for the delay, but i've had the flu! (Yep - it probably was manflu!)
Have taken the top off my receiver now and have found the connector to the main pc board to be a bit iffy. When i took out the plug, the base assembly came away as well. Took ages to get it to locate back properly but eventually I was successful.
Reconnected it, but when i booted up under "Settings>Storage" no device is seen. If i plug in a flash memory to the usb though it sees that.
Looks like a hardware connectivity problem to me so i guess it needs to go for a repair.
Any suggestions for a good repairer - i live in Preston Lancs, but i can always mail the receiver
regards

You could try forum member Vipersan - hes not too far from you and is a bit of an electrical whizzkid. I'll contact him and see if hes got any ideas.

Hmm ..
From the sound of it ...it looks like a faulty hard drive ..
Have you tried replacing the hard drive with a known good one and formatting that ?

Other possibilities are firmware issues ...
You could perform a backup to usb of ALL internals ..firmware and channel list included to a usb pen ..as a backup ..
Then grabbing a new firmware ...writing it to a second usb pen ..and performing a new firmware flash install ..
Please make sure of your backup first ..as you may need this to go back if it fails ..

Another possibility is the failure of the sata interface chip/hardware ....in which case its not going to be an easy repair ..
Parts/chips from the far east are notoriously difficult to obtain ...and tricky to replace ...particularly as dedicated sodering equipment is needed ..and service info ..schematics etc ...are NEVER made available these days..

But first ..the easiest and most likely ..is hard drive failure ..and this should be eliminated first ..
Also ..the leads connecting the hard drive can be suspect ..and you should be able to borrow a sata data lead from a pc to eliminate this ..
They are the same and are standard ..though longer..

Well spotted Gordon ...
It was a typo ...but perfectly valid if you are a US citizen

Well sounds like this might prove to be a bit of a b*gger to fix!
I'll survive until after Xmas with an 8Gb flash in the usb and then I'll have to try suggestions posted.
thanks guys
