HDMI cable standards - though it could be relevant to any other plug in cable.

There must be hundreds of sellers on the usual two sites flogging HDMI cables with claims of '2.0'. 'UHD'. 'high speed', etc.

Apart from the usual pin checking from one end to the other for continuity, how does one verify what arrives in the post is actually going to provide full uninterrupted viewing pleasure when it has been sourced for burial in a wall behind the latest 55/65/75" LCD screen at a client's property ?

"At short lengths of under about 5m, there aren't many reasons to spend a lot on an HDMI cable. Even basic cables have gold-plated connectors and - contrary to what some believe - there is no difference in picture or sound quality between HDMI cables. It's a digital connection, so the data either makes it from one end of the cable to the other, or it doesn't.
And if it doesn't, the picture and sound will break up in a very obvious way.
With that in mind, as long as you stick to a reputable brand, you can basically buy any cheap HDMI cable and you’ll be good to go."

The newer 4K and 8K HD signals have a higher frequency on the data signals, some of the older HDMI cables (especially the longer ones) may not handle them too well.

I found this interesting...

Code:
https://www.hdmi.org/resource/cables

And if I was going to bury a cable in the wall I would use the best I could get, never know whats going on equipment wise (someone changed to an 8K) after you install it.

I hadn't mentioned brands. With the sheer number of items on the two sites what is considered 'reputable' these days ?

I've looked through stores and found a number of leads. Two would be horrendous to bury in the wall, others of the correct length have markings and brands but nothing that confirms the compliance/standard they have been built to.

Look for cables that are "certified" (see Terryl's link) on Amazon and then check the reviews for success with 120hz 4K.
