I've had a few over time, and if builders/electricians are embedding cables for later use and they are not in a duct suitable for later replacement, I always recommend they use a simple tester, test before and after installation and install a backup CAT6 cable. Also found one the other day which was apparently unidirectional, in that it had to be installed with a specific end at the sat receiver end, which of course he hadn't done and it had been plastered in.

I have quite a few hdmi cables that work fine until I put a 4k signal through them and they either display no signal or have blinking video. These include some specified high speed ones.

They'll probably realise that you're taking the pi$$ just as much as they are.

The kids at the school I work at have broken several of the "monitor port" cables (HDMI type but slightly different shield shape). They push the base units back on the desks until the mp cable hits the wall and bends it. The connections are nowhere near as robust as good old vga.

Quite so, probably why many of those that I tested had o/c screens - even when brand new - or that happens in use, especially if bent "too sharply"
