Huge Freeview Reshuffle: 60 Channels Are Changing,

60 Freeview channels are about to change their numbers,
in one of the most extensive reshuffles Freeview has ever seen
(see the complete list of changes below).

The numbering changes will take place on January 26, 2022.

This is due to the return of the linear version of BBC Three on February 1, 2022,
which will air on Freeview Channel 23 in SD, and Freeview Channel 109 in HD.

The list of affected channels includes ITV4, 5Star, HGTV, Freesports, CBS Reality,
NOW 80s and many others.

While many of these channel changes will also take place on other platforms – such as Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media – those devices can make channel changes automatically.
However, it does mean that some of the channels you know will move on these other TV platforms as well, and not just on Freeview.

That's going to be fun, I have many elderly customers who have remembered or written down the numbers of their watched channels and get confused when things change.

Something I was unaware of until I read this:-
No Talking Pictures TV either. It is a poor relation to the Sky satellite service in many aspects, and until customers can try it without being suckered into buying a low end television with buggy firmware it is to be avoided.

Millions of UK homes that watch telly via Freeview may soon find a whole swathe of popular channels will be missing from their on-screen planner. From June 2022, one of the signals used to beam content to living rooms - known as COM7 mulitplex - is being switched off to make way for modern 5G mobile technology.

Last year, UK network EE won the auction to use this frequency which will help it bring much faster downloads and a more reliable connection to phones that are compatible with 5G.

The closure of this signal for TV services will reduce the capacity for both standard and HD channels that are currently available.

The changes come into effect from June 30th and will mean channels such as BBC Four HD, CBeebies HD and More4 +1 may no longer be available to view in their usual slot - in fact, some might disappear completely.

Here's a full of channels that use COM7 mulitplex.
FreeSports • Quest Red + • Now 70s • More4 +1 • PBS America +1 • That's TV • Forces TV • BBC Four HD • BBC News HD • QVC HD • QVC Beauty HD • Quest HD • CBeebies HD (daytime)

It's currently unclear if these popular services will move to new frequencies or if they will be scrapped but it's thought that the changes will affect over 20million homes. Some BBC channels such as BBC Four HD may simply move to online platforms with viewers then tuning via iPlayer rather than Freeview.

Here in the East of England we lost most of the HD FreeView channels as the transmitter power was set too low for my 48 Element communial system to receive them.

Many will not have noticed the channels appearing around here on Com7 as the aerials are predominately Group A.

It was only to have been a temporary measure anyway, whatever survives the public backlash (BBC3 reboot) will surely be shifted down a few MHz.
