My Satellite Setup
Single Dish with a two output wideband LNB
My Location

Hi all,
Your opinion will be welcome here. I have the above SetTopBox for about 4 years and it worked very well. Recently I changed address. In the new place I connect the STB to the satellite dish that comes with the house. I worked well for about a year and suddenly stop working. I thought the LNB has failed, so I bought a new LNB which is a wideband unit. I tried everything and cannot get it to work.

I then bought a Satlink WS-6933. I set the WS-6933 as follows:
Satellite.......................Astra 2 28.2 E
LNB................................Universal
Local Oscillator.......10410
TP Num.........................59
Freq................................11097 V
Symbrate......................23000

With that settings I got a very good signal on the meter. When I connect the STB it tells me there is no signal. Where am I going wrong. I get the feeling the STB is faulty.
What do think?

Thanks for your time

Ranford

The problem first of all is that you bought a wideband LNB. These will only work with $ky Q boxes and the very newest Freesat boxes.

You need to change that for a Universal LNB and then go from that to see if it solves your problem.

Thanks Paul for your reply, I will set about getting a universal LNB.

Once again, thanks Paul.
I got the universal LNB and with the Satlink WS-6933 I found the signal quite easily. Now the system is up and running, the wife is happy.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

The Humax should still receive some channels with a wideband LNB on the dish, though you may have to manual tune them.

If the dish was already installed and functioning, the LNB is a straight swap and does not need a meter to align.

Excellent news.

Have you tried the Humax again? Has it healed itself while it was disconnected?

Hi Paul,

The Humax is in use now. After getting the new LNB aligned, I did a factor reset on the STB, then connected the dish to it. Waited a while and carried out a signal test. The STB now showed me the same signal as the meter did. I then did an auto tune and all is well. You taught me an inportant fact regarding LNBs, I did a lot of reading and did not find that piece of info.

Keep up the good work guys. You make novice like me think he is an expert.

Glad to be of service and, frankly, glad it was such an easy fix!
