Ideas and concepts section

Hi Guys,

Can I humbly suggest that we introduce an "innovation" section, where the where-with-all can post new ideas and concept innovations for our hobby?
I am thinking this might foster the posting of "wild-ideas" and "wouldn't it be good if you could xxx" concepts, some of which might even make sense for vendors to make???
Think of it as "potential-out-of-the-box" feedback for the community (including, erh, "in-the-box" manufacturers)...

Made-up candidates for postings (each should have their own thread, hence the section requirement)
1) DiSEqC motors with built-in spirit-levels, making mounting a jiffy!
2) DiSEqC motors with micro-adjustment meachnisms that allows fine-tuning that not-quite-vertical mounting pole.
3) "High-end" versions of kits with all-INOX accessories, making certain members happy...
4) LNBs with low-power heating elements, making that damned snow slide off the front of the LNB even while we sleep...

There could well be a hardware and a software section - each catering to a different segment of the community.

Oh, and Í am sure @RimaNTSS would be regular contributor to this thread....

Pointless unless the mounting medium ( pole or whatever ) has been vertical checked on all axis before hand.

Just my feedback.

I would have thought the workbench and solering station section would suffice, but if needed it could be an additional subsection.

Einstein's Alcove has also been popular for 'way out there' ideas.

I would be very interested if somebody comes with the solution how to fine tune azimuth of installation of big dish, that should be done with the precision of 0,1* or even less. I see this adjustment very critical in case of polar-mounted antenna.

You are cheating @st1 , you know I can not keep quiet here! Bastard!

Those were merely example suggestions.
I do not have "the next big thing" idea (for our hobby). (yet...)
But maybe someone else has?

The key is to treat new suggestions with a "what-if" approach, rather than a "pointless - don't bother" attitude.
Play ball with some ideas.... Try modifying it, kicking in new suggestions.... Play-along... go-with-the-flow... See-what-happens...

(But actually, if the mount had spirit levels built in, there'd be no need for "the third hand" when putting up the pole - it would all be built in...
but in case the pole had been erected slightly off-skew, suggestion #2 might be useful: A Mount that allowed for micro-adjustments to that pole-in-concrete that was never quite vertical...)

I was thinking slightly more conceptual than that...
More in the vein of "wouldn't it be great if we could have self-aligning mounts - although I am not sure how I would do this..."
Einstein's Alcove has also been popular for 'way out there' ideas.
I was thinking slight less conceptual than that...
Gravitational waves are great, but find little use in my back-yard, even when dealing with satellite reception issues.

TBH, I've yet to see a really innovative posting in Einstein's Alcove.
Innovation is not the same as research or fundamental physics.
More sort of "wouldn't it be nice if we could xxx or yyy, and things would be a lot more easy..."

Why bother with built in levels in numerous variations of mounting post options when this little post level can be attached to every mounting option and costing less than a fiver ( even in norway ):-rofl2

Take an AZBox Premium+ apart & re build it with added codecs for MPEG-4 4:2:2,16APSK,32APSK,H265,
The rebuild should be a doddle all we need then is a satellite enthusiast / genius to write the new software :D

YES! That's more like it... notwithstanding that the hardware of the original AZBox probably can't do H.265, the key point is that you like a lot of the functions, so you really want the same, except with up-to-date fetaures etc...
SO, manufacturers (or rather procurement people at EU resellers requesting boxes from the Chinese), take notice: There's a potential sweet point here. Learn from the features, then go and make them happen one way or the other.

Here's another one: Make a receiver software work with DiSEqC an a per-transponder way, so that you can program individual channels on individual dishes.

EH?

Well, the context is this: I have problem with fringe-receiving 28.xE.
I have a CM180. Great stuff, but still at odds when pointing at either 28.2E or 28.5E.
I (think I) would be even more happy with two CM120s, one pointing at 2E, the other at 2F/G.
I happen to have two CM120s - it wouldn't be a major undertaking to point two against the sky.

AND THEN an STB that would allow programming of the channel list to choose individual transponders from dish A or dish B.
Really, this is all just software, and could be programmed reading the Lyngsat tables or similar.

So depending on what Channel I chose to watch, the dish got switched.

SImple, eh? Well, this - to some extent - works today in many IRDs with user-defined channel sorting, but I have yet to come acress a domestic-level (simple to use) Freesat receiver that supports this in a meaninglful way...

Thoughts? Ideas? New takes?

This can be easily done by editing satellites.xml file, basically by separating 2E from 2F/G and making them as two different positions. Then, each time when you choose channel from 2E antenna will turn to 2E, and if you turn channel from 2F/G antenna will do couple of klicks again.

Nothing is stopping you from being the first, besides there is a third choice of the Gizmos and Gadgets, or any of the individual sections relating to motors, receivers or accessories.

I pride myself on off the wall out of the box thinking ...or at least I have been accused of being mad in the past..
perhaps not so much these days.
But take the 'mad bstd' tag as a complement also..
I guess it isn't such a bad idea to group such stuff together ..but regardless of where I've posted such stuff in the past ...
If crazy enough ..it usually finds its way to an appreciative audience..
What I will say is ..that some of the bestest craziest most off the wall ideas I've seen proposed by amateurs ..and sat related have been to Sats UK..
So go forward in your collective madness ..and make us proud..you 'mad bstds you'
:D

Ideas and concept's section........Good idea.

OK, what I have in mind is a pair of mechanical hands that will on command, pop out of the dash board, one will grab the driver, the other will slap the SH## out of Him/Her/It.

I really hate driving to town with all those flat lander's driving around like they are the only ones allowed on the road.
