I would like to set up a satellite antenna for monitoring Eutelsat 7/8 W
My Location
London
Dear all is it possible to receive a signal from Eutelsat 7W or 8W here in London what is the minimum dish size recommended for monitoring proposes?

It all depends on which channels you're trying to get.
Many satellites have different beams, even Astra 2, 28.2E, due to improvents in satellite technology, they can now broadcast spot beams, more focussed on where the channels can be received, with less bleed out for Countries further from the beams.
You can see the various satellite beam maps on sites like lyngsat, with various degrees of accuracy.
Can you please post some channel names. and frequencies, you hope to receive from 7W and 8W.

Probably best to check your location for unobstructed views to the orbital slots, then check with the neighbours for any potential objections.

7 West would also include transmissions from Nilesat.

8 West has transmissions in both C and Ku band.

As mentioned above it all depends on where you are in London, and which channels you would be looking for.

In outer W.London, just North of Heathrow, I get a load of channels on both sats on a 1.25m Gibertini, and previously got quite a lot on an old 1.0-1.1m TRIAX TD110, which is probably the smallest practicable one - although quite a few could be received on an 88-90cm dish, but only on those beams which cover Western Europe.

+1 on the Triax TD110. I’ve found it to be a good general purpose catch all satellite dish on the above mentioned satellites without drawing too much neighbourly attention.

The older versions are real bastards to set up and definitely not for newbies! OTOH, the current versions do look somewhat easier.

TBH, if you have never set a sat dish before, you would be strongly advised to get an experienced (NOT just SKY/Hotbird/ etc!!) Sat systems installer to do it for you - there are several on the forum who should be able to do that.

I didn't know there was different designs for the 110, thought they stopped making them a long time ago. The bracket is a disgraceful design, I got rid of mine because of it but when i got it aligned and all bolts tight it did hold up pretty well in the wind.

Having checked back through my previous posts, and various Triax suppliers, about the TD110, it would appear that the TD110 & TD88 WERE discontinued some time ago - regardless of that, if I was to buy a new dish around 1m then I would definitely been inclined to buy another Gibertini as they are well engineered and "relatively easy" to set up and adjust. OTOH, the larger ones seem generally to be heavier than similar sized dishes from other manufacturers.

W.r.t. @tdksat - personally, & FWIW, I now think no-one should provide this particular OP any further info on this OR any other thread started in future because he/they is obviously "out for what he can get" without any thought of even thanking forum members who have tried to help.

This "type" of member is not wanted here and should be firmly discouraged from further participation

For a 1m dish the Gibertini is a great option. But not a direct substitute for the Triax which is a 1.1, depends what you're trying to tune
