Not good

There are a huge number of warranties on equipment out there, plus the revolving government contracts.

So,does this mean less C-band broadcasts in Europe & more Ku band?
the communique seems triumphant, yet the thread has a title evoking the demise of C-band...
What does this mean for us,simple satellite viewers?

At a guess a good part of the c-band spectrum in use over Yankland will be repurposed for mobile communications use, and the providers will get a nice compensation payout for handing it over.

In Europe - Well apart from the fact c-band isnt used much over Europe itself, to begin with it wont mean anything, but you can guarantee mobile providers are eyeing up all that juicy spectrum. Once the precedent has been set over the pond our telecoms companies will be in a much weaker position to stop European governments flogging it off. And you can have a certain bet that African mobile providers will be watching the situation carefully, ready to run to their regulatory bodies with cheque books open....

thank you for the answer.. just to mention that c-band has a lot of ZAfrican channnels(in French or English) that I d like to watch, but the required equipment isn t practical in a city environment...hence my hope these channels would be on Ku band, like a few already on 9°east !

They may appear in time but your guess is as good as mine as to possible timescales.

The spectrum sell off has an impact with satellite systems that use the frequencies for telemetry, Inmarsat for example springs to mind.

Maybe Im a cynical old sod but bingo!! No wonder SES are so keen on the FCC plan....

10 billion dollars worth of incentive will give the shareholders of SES / Eutelsat / Intelsat / Telesat & Embratel Star One companies a nice payoff. PLUS the mobile providers have to pay for new satellites & ground infrastructure.

Trebles all round mister barman!
