Ok I'll start the thread ready..
Sky's clearing here atm ...hopefully a warmish night tonight ..
Hopefully this will be the same over the next couple of days ..
main peak time for the shower is Tomorrow and Wednesday ..
So 10th 11th 12th August ..
Any reported sightings please add to this thread ...and pictures would be nice ... if you are lucky enough to get one ..
Nothing better than watching a clear night sky ...until your neck aches ..for streakers..
good fortune to anyone interested.

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC
My Location
Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
We were out last night on the cement beach (front driveway, it has a good view of the constellation Perseus) to see if anything would be coming by early, got some good long duration big ones, total count was around 25 to 35 in the 4 hour's we were outside viewing, (counts always vary after a few drinks) hope the next few days are even better.

Got a good satellite count of around 85, and for those in the right location (check with the NASA site) you may get a good view of the space station as it comes over your location.

To avoid neck problems in the weeks to follow a reclining chase lounge or reclining chair used for the beach would be the best way to view them, we have a few old recliners and wheel them out to keep from busting our necks.

I have red lights setup in the garage to have access to the bar and snacks, and inside to the guest bathroom this keeps the light pollution down and you don't have to stumble around in the dark waiting for your eyes to adjust.

This is a yearly thing at my place, as I don't have city lights to contend with, (nearest town is 35 miles away) usually several friends stop by and we have a good time watching out for those quick ones, and try to run up a good personal count. also without a Moon at this time of night to affect the viewing it looks to be a good year.

Happy viewing, watch those necks, and be safe in the dark.

Total cloud cover at the moment down here, as it was last night, hoping the skies will clear over the next few nights.

Just been stood out in the garden and saw a few, had my paraffin lantern hung in the cherry tree too, just for a little low light to see by... :D

Stood outside for a couple of hours last night ..
Completly clear no cloud at all ..
Saw a paltry 2 during that time ...but there may have been more ..
BUT ...light polution is the main issue here these days ..
New school close by with FFing floodlights on over 5 a side pitch and light from the building itself ...and the new streetlights are bright although pointing down they also radiate up hitting the pavements.
So whos paying for all this ..wasted energy ..
The taxpayer I guess ..and sooo unneccessary not to mention ruinous to any sky watching.
Bring back sodium lamps and turn them off after midnight for a few hours I say.
Stop wasting energy in govt buildings and schools ...just cos its not your home doesn't mean you can be wasteful.
Anyhoo ..
Its clouded over here now ..so no chance tonight I guess ..
Fingers crossed for a miracle.
happy hunting

Current time here 22:45
so presumably the perseid shower would originate South of me roughly in Manchester ..
but SE or SW ..and how high above the Horizon is best to look..?
I know I'm not best placed this far North ,,,but I have another clear night ahead cloud wise...

Remember the radiant is in the north east but they meteors can appear anywhere in the sky - if you track back the trail a Perseid will appear to have come from north eastish.

If you happen to see one that appears to originate elsewhere it could well be a non Perseid :D

Stood in the garden for a few minutes and saw a couple of bright ones so it could be a decent display this evening. Equally good results on Band 2 listening for pings, I'm recording the tuner overnight so will try to post some of the results tomorrow but currently there's a steady stream of signals from Croatia producing decent RDS decoding.

Clear skies and no wind here.
Stood outside for 15 minutes. Saw 2 straight away. Then nothing for 10 minutes (ouch my neck). (did spot two satellites, but they're so slow compared to the perseids..
Then two more.
Made my wishes. One has something to do with space for a 2.4meter dish.
Soon heading for the sack...
