Hi everyone. This is the first forum I've clicked into after searching Google.
Apologies if this feels like spam but it's genuinely more a request for info and ideas.IMG_20190526_115811-1000x750.jpgIMG_20190526_115811-1000x750.jpgIMG_20190526_115817-750x1000.jpg

A friends elderly parents (ages 70+ and 80+) asked me to angle-grind this out of their garden and take to the local tip\dump.

I said to hold off as this looks too amazing to simply send to landfill.

It's a dish with motorized tracking and movement. Apparently the controller and all the electronics components are packaged up in their loft (which I presume to mean the old, ancient analogue receiver box too although of limited use nowadays, I'd imagine).

My initial thought immediately jumped to a software-defined-radio enthusiast or perhaps a DIY radio-telescope project but someone mentioned it might still have value to some of you guys.

So can anyone tell what these are and what I'd be best doing with these items? I've no use for them and couldn't store them even if I did

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

That is an IRTE prime focus motorised system.
Without seeing the front it could be a 1.2 or 1.5m

Far too good to cut up.

You are three miles away from me , I have no problem helping you dispose of it

Nice one. Appreciated for the info.
I'll discuss with them regarding a suitable time for collection.
It likely won't be during September though as I know they've got other things happening so maybe early October. Feel free to buzz me a pm with your mobile number and I'll drop you a text so it's easier to arrange the timings etc

Update

Finally got the go ahead on friday and the dish is now back here.

The owners have done their best to grease and oil the important bits, but many bolts have suffered in the 30 years or so this has been in the garden, plus the original company drilled through the reflector to pass the LNB/polariser cables through to the front end. The hacksaw was the second most important tool in taking everything apart, with some brake fluid to release what was sitting behind.

But overall the dish face, feed arms and polarmount are in reasonable useable condition and I'll take put some cleaning fluids on the metalwork later this week. The Skyscan branded actuator is beyond help though.

Thanks Wodgey for the heads up.

Dismantling further and there is a second reinforcing plate behind the main one . I don't recall seeing that before, though my main installs in the 80's/90's were 1.5m and this is the 1.2m
