Must be time for the annual king of the sunflowers competition :)

Usual "rules", - grow the tallest sunflowers on the forum & have a bit of banter with the others.

No prizes for the tallest flowers, just the kudos of knowing your plants tower over the dwarf efforts of the other growers. As usual I shall trail in last :Dwith shortar5e stunties as the growing season is so short up here.

It'll be the usual mix this year for me, last year's seeds from the big'uns and a different strain if I remember to buy or order summat.

I will have a search in the garden shed to see what's there.

They are on their way, half are Russian Giant the other half are a no name tall sunflower. I did not start them too early this year as I normally do.I will plant three Russian Giant and three of the others at the bottom shed veranda posts .
The others will not be wasted they will be planted elsewhere in the garden where I can find a bit of unused muck. Mrs Ponti does not leave much spare planting space.

We probably have another couple of weeks before its worth planting ours. still too much chance of late frosts & no greenhouse.

Mine have started, but just at the first two leaves stage.

Likewise mine, however I may be starting another thread and calling it "Dwarf of the Sunflowers 2020" for the shortest flowering sunflower as my own seeds from last year failed to germinate and so being unable to go out and buy some I have planted some from the birdseed, which from experience of growing them in the 70's in Israel I do know are dwarf varieties to allow harvesting using a converted wheat combine harvester.

Mine are doing well, half giants from last year's plants, half Evening Sun. They want to be put in the ground soon, but seems a little early, still a possible frost over the next week or two I suppose. :(

After another search of the Garden Shed I found a packet of Russian Giants use by 2021,

So they have now gone into a seed tray in the cold frame :)

Now there's an oxymoron if I ever heard one, they are supposed to keep the plants warmer so should be called a warm frame

Ok as mentioned I may create a flowering dwarf competition this year, however one of mine has gained some momentum in the past few days of sunshine, i potted it on two days ago and already the roots are pushing out of the bottom.

Just potted up 3 of mine and put them out, got some in reserve in the greenhouse in case of frost or slug damage. No problems with them not getting watered while we're away this year due to lockdown. I've put another picture up of my morning dog walk, the bluebells are a lot brighter in real life!

I have never understood what makes them like this but I have more pink bells than blue bells in my garden
