hi all,

just wondering what LNB you might be using, and if you have it pushed forward or back in the holder

i was using a IBU until signals on 19e were low (maybe too overpowered needing attenuated) - replaced with a TM Gold and signal shot up, but i do wonder if there might be better options to pull in that extra 1 or 2 %

thanks all and merry christmas!

Laminas 1.2M fibre dish with an IBU, on a Clarke Tech USALS motor, covering 57E - 24.5W to an Octagon SX88. Displayed on a 20" Dyon LED TV.

Seperate 80 cm dish on 28E with a Humax Freesat for SWMBO.

IBU here, pushed as far back in the holder as possible. Haven't had any problems with 19E using this LNB...

thanks mate, yeah i posted a while back - I could get full arc at 98% at both ends 34.5w and 45e - but Pearl HD or Phoenix HD on19e was down in its 70%'s - when i knew that high 80%'s was achievable - replacing the IBU LNB got me that 89%

thinking about it, it doesnt really make sense, cos when i swung the dish around manually and peaked it JUST on that channel i could get the channels (mentioned above) at 89% - it just wasnt hitting it when using the motor to position it on 19e.

Of course, it will work, but not necessary at its maximum performance. I do not know how to measure the position of the focal point, however it is calculable.
It is possible to check whether the LNB is properly placed: if we know antenna's offset angle and exact elevation of the received satellite then it is possible to measure the leaning of the face of the antenna. Then the measured offset angle should be exactly the same as stated by the producer. If they are different- the LNB's position is wrong.

Frankly, this test would just give a comparison between the stated offset angle by the manufacturer, and the actual offset angle where the LNB is located at the moment?
It doesn't say anything about the correctness of the stated offset angle, or about the focal length (which is related to the distance of the LNB to the dish).

Is that a step you saved for later...?
Or is this Laminas a non-flat-faced dish, where the calculation of the offset angle is a bit more difficult than at a 'normal' flat-faced offset dish?

Of course, much better is to measure the dish and calculate all the parameters of it. And then an offset angle test can be made to find the exact position LNB should be placed.

hey guys....i was checking my signal strength (Laminas OFC-1200) against @william-1 list found here:

he's not that far from me, about 20 miles max, and he's using a 1m Gibby - judging by his profile....

i would have thought i would be equalling or bettering levels gotten by Williams 1m Gibby - do you think i'm not quite setup correctly, or views being obscured...?

I get different db numbers from two different boxes on the same dish. Doesn't mean much really.

You see. I don't . 2 boxes fed by same dish and lnb . dB report is same on both. I can understand SQ and SNR being different

Different LNBs will also give varying results on the receiver signal parameters.

Are you using a dedicated or feed designed by Laminas or just the clamp and LNBFs that are out there ?

Done that. The Technomate always reads higher than the Zgemma.
