Hi,
Hoping that I have posted in the right place – could do with some help/advice…
Leaving Sky Sports/BT Sport - too expensive. Can I get Sky sports via my satellite dish?
We would like to continue watching the football/sports.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Stay safe & take care.

Only way to watch Sky Sports via satellite is to pay Sky. Ring up and cancel, say it's too expensive given the current cost of living, they may offer discounts to stay. If not cancel fully. After a few months they'll offer discounts to resubscribe (that's my experience anyway).

Thank you very much for your prompt reply – much appreciated.
I will be out of contract in 3 weeks’ time.
I called Sky last Friday and they offered me a 10% discount from £69 to £64, per month. We were paying £48 per month. A 29% increase from £48 to £62. £744 a year!
Wondering what alternatives are available that would allow us to continue watching the footy?

Nothing really, nowadays, not even for the most dedicated Satellite hobbyist.

Other Countries with signals receivable in the UK also have Subscription Packages but they won't be cheap and probably won't have English Audio.

Feeds can sometimes be found but they often use transmission formats that are not friendly to the private consumer

Thank you for your reply.
Part of the problem is our poor internet connection: . As I understand, NOW TV/Amazon etc, are based on internet access – and ours is not very good at 8 – 9mbps. Hence the reason to see if we could connect with satellite.

If you just want "football" the German channels show a lot of it & with good teams(of German interest of course) ,but for free
French subs to "be-in" may be cheaper... check their menu first!

See if your broadband can be supplied by fibre to the home (FTTH) All houses in the UK will be wired in the next few years - the plan is to switch off the copper cabling based traditional phone system around 2025. If you want Prem footy via satellite then you basically bite the bullet, grit your teeth & pay the extortionate amount Sky demands. There are a few games shown in the clear but they tend to be on a very obscure satellite way over east, and the transmission quality of a lot of the output is abysmal!

here is a link to the "be-in" offer
seems to cost around 15 euros...
the snag is,it's done over one of the "boxes" ...maybe you could get it over a UK box ...who knows?

You can't directly subscribe to beIN from the UK, it would have to be via a third party which will likely not be cheap, unless you have friends in France who are willing to help.

Sincere apologies for not responding sooner.
Our electricity went, ‘off’ just after tea time last night – only just returned.
In addition we had five large trees that blow down in the storm last night blocking our drive. Only just managed to clear them before darkness set in.
No chance of getting fiber where we live – lucky to get internet at 8- 9mbps. I’ll be amazed if we, ‘ever’ get fiber – Highlands of Scotland seem to have their own agenda.
I will look into the BEIN.
Interestingly our satellite has stopped working… omen???
I am hopeful that it was the 90mph winds that has just, ‘moved’ the dish. Will have a look at that in daylight tomorrow.
Once again sincere thanks for your help.

Stay safe & take care.

5mb is enough for HD streaming

Ah.. that sounds very re-assuring – thank you. I always thought that you needed something like 100mbps. Shows how much I know!

Try (eg) BBC iPlayer, either through your TV or a Computer/Phone. If that's stable, then Netflix etc should be too.

Have you looked into 3G/4G/5G? Unlimited data is available at reasonable cost these days, though check speeds at peak times before hand.

15Mbps to 20Mbps on 3G here - faster than 4G at peak times, probably because many are using 4G for TV since the Bilsdale fire.

Here’s an interesting article from Wired which should explain all you need to know about viewing EPL soccer. The really interesting part of the article is the drive towards PPV. There really isn’t too many options out there for real cost savings. You could do what many others do these days. Go to you local pub. As long as you don’t have a big thirst you should save yourself some money. The Premier League’s pay-per-view test is driving a risky piracy boom
