Hi All,

I have a 1m Triax dish supplying 2 Total TV receivers through a dual LNB.
Recently the missus has been complaining that the signal upstairs for her favourite channel is poor (pixelating etc).
I tried a little experiment and set the downstairs receiver to the same channel and suddenly upstairs was perfect.

I'm presuming the LNB is shot (it is 9 years old), but wanted to check with you guys before I swapped it out.

Many thanks

Reg

If you swap the receivers around does the same problem occur?

Good call, haven't tried that ... will do when the missus has finished watching her current show.

Same thing, upstairs picture is poor unless on the same channel as downstairs.

Next step would be to check the cable & connectors at the LNB end for corrosion or water ingress.

If they look good you could also try swapping the cables around to see if the same problem happens - if the downstairs receiver now has the problem then it's definitely the LNB.

One step ahead of you, I figured that would be the next step and yes the problem switches. I have a new LNB in the shed (somewhere) so will switch that out, maybe tomorrow when the snow melts :). For now the wife will just have to make sure she's on the same channel in both rooms.

Thanks for your help, very much appreciated.

Question: How long are the cable runs?

If the upstairs run is longer then it could be due to more signal loss on that line,(or more voltage drop) if the LNB is going South it's output level could have dropped.

Can you find out what polarity the channel with the problem is on, and try a channel on your receiver with the same polarity.(but not her channel)
If the problem upstairs goes away then the LNB may have a problem.

The cable runs are about equal, no breaks or joins in the run. I looked at the polarity and it is definitely only on Vertical. For the moment I am presuming it's the LNB and will replace it tomorrow, fingers crossed and thanks for the feedback.
