Hi,

If you own one of these devices, could you please post some pictures of the menu, especially the menu of the TOOL button in terrestrial mode.

Also, I am interested in what options are active in different models.

Does anyone have the GPS/COVERAGE option working?

Regards,
Vitor

To better explain: I want to understand what functions each model has and if some of these functions can be activated as an option.

Examples:
- CONSTELLATION (standard in all models?)
- LTE (standard in all models?)
- ECHOES (only for HD Ranger+ ?)
- MEROGRAM (only for HD Ranger+ ?)
- MERVSCARRIER (only for HD Ranger+ ?)
- SPECTROGRAM (available as option for HD Ranger 50 SE)
- COVERAGE (What is this? I think it is for the GPS module, but I don't have any compatible one. This option seems to be active per default)

regards,
Vitor

COVERAGE: This is actually listed as SIGNAL MONITORING and works without attached GPS receiver.

Vitor, LTE rejection filtering is standard in my Promax Ranger+. The Ranger Lite needs an external filter. Not sure about the other meters.

The other facilities you mention are standard in the Ranger+. Again, I don't knpw if the other meters have any or all of the other options.

There's also an optical power meter and optical to RF converter available as an option for the Ranger+.

Thanks Llew.

I would like to see a screenshot of the TOOLS menu in DVB-T mode.

I am trying to figure out if and how I could activate the missing options on my HD Ranger 50 SE.

Vitor

Thank you very much, John.

Now I see which menu items are missing on my unit.

I will let you now if I find anything.

Could a owner of the HD Ranger 50 SE please confirm that the SPECTROGRAM option is not available?

This video here Vitor is for my standard Promax HD Ranger+ , again in 'Tools' mode and Terrestial mode. Both my Promax HD Ranger+ meters have the latest firmware.

Hello.

I have solved the issue.
It turns out that the different models of the HD Ranger series have all different hardware configuration (tuner, demodulator, battery, keyboard, temperature sensor).
The missing options (ECHOES, MEROGRAM, MERVSCARRIER) require a given demodulator type that is not present in my device.
In the process I learned how to configure, change and activate options and hardware configurations.
Thanks for the videos!

Regards,
Vitor

Hi,

Anyone using a GPS attached to the Rover HD Ranger?

I just ordered what I assume is a compatible GPS receiver. Not exactly cheap, but I found a source that was never the less half the price of the few other sellers I found.

I expect to be able to drive around and have a GPS & TIME stamp on the measurements. What is not clear to me is if there is a PC-based software to then show the recorded measurements on Google Maps?

Just found the manual: https://www.promax.es/downloads/manuals/English/HDRANGERp-GPS.pdf

Thanks,
Vitor

There seems to be an inconsistency with the naming of this function. The manual calls it "Signal Coverage", on my device it is listed as "Signal Monitoring". I guess it is the same.

It is enabled in the XML as being the "COVERAGE" option. This was enabled by default on my device.

Vitor

Yes, but as with my device, the menu item is called "Signal Monitoring".
if you look at the manual I linked above, it should say "Signal Coverage".
The two sub-menus are the same as with mine. I think that over time they just renamed this option.
Without connected GPS the three last lines of the right table are not shown. However, if you exit the configuration menu, you will briefly see the LAT, LONG and GPS STATUS lines.
Anyway, I hope the GPS will be delivered quickly, so I can test it.

Just had a set-back... :(

The seller was ready to ship me the newer GPS model (despite the product description clearly showing the older model), which is probably not compatible with the HD Ranger...

Back to zero. The problem is that these GPS receivers are far more expensive than the modern Chinese counter parts: these cost like 5 Euro with free shipping, while the best current offer for a Promax compatible USB receiver is over 100 Euro.

I am fairly confident that any GPS receiver using the same core module (Haicom) would work, but at 50-100 Euro it is a bit too expensive for me to just buy randomly.

My theory is that Promax HD Ranger has built-in driver for this exact model: "Haicom HI-204III USB GPS".

What I don't know is if the "Haicom HI-206 USB" uses the same driver and ID. Also, I wonder if ANY USB GPS receiver based on Haicom would work.

What I do know if that the cheap USB GPS receivers from China are not recognized.

Does anyone with a Promax HD Ranger by accident have a USB GPS receiver based on the Haicom chipset? All you would have to do is to stick it in and see if the Signal Monitoring menu would show LAT/LONG/GPS Status.

Let me know if you need the COVERAGE (=Signal Monitor/Signal Coverage) option to be activated.

Regards,
Vitor

Bad news. The Haicom HI204-III USB arrived today, but unfortunately it is not recognized by the Promax HD Ranger 50 SE.
The "Unsupported USB device" message pops up.

Reviewing the "bottom.bin" file, it seems that there are indeed further options that need to be activated. However, this requires messing with the XML-file where other relevant data is stored and I don't have means to backup this file nor to know the current contents.

I would need a sample upgrade file (which is for sure a PRO file for Netupdate4) for the GPS option to be sure how this has to look like.

If anyone happens to have any PRO file, from any upgrade, that would help me a lot.

Regards,
Vitor
