I’ve fotographed Mars a couple of times last month. But the only thing you can see is a really shiny star...
this Footage is impressive if you take in count it is shot from someone’s back garden!

From the video it looks like a standard 8" reflector telescope, which can be bought second hand for not a lot of money.

I would think the tripod has been modified, or bolted to something substantial for better stability than the standard affair.
