No, I've only seen the XP with wingnuts 'welded' onto a nut.

I have no experience of the L series, the only Gibertini I've used was the XP 1 metre.

I think the problem is delivering 1 meter diameter not the Gibertini series.
Has anybody successfully order and received 1 meter dish from Europe?

I've seen this,

So if it arrives dented etc. it would be covered by Amazon.

But the cost will be £90ish (maybe +vat too). But as its an L series, I'm still trying to work out if it will be better than a £50 technomate of the 'same' size.

A friend ordered something from 'Amazon EU', it took four weeks to arrive and arrived badly damaged due to poor packaging. Because it came from Amazon EU there was no free return label, you have to pay to return it and then they refund you.

This is a personal opinion so: The satellite hobby is not an 'easy' one. It's difficult to say which is the best dish etc. Generally you begin with a basic dish, find out it's foibles and then change it up for a better engineered one or much more likely, a larger one. Sadly there's no 'magic bullet' to recommend, many of us have dishes which which we've tried and are then consigned to the backup pile (in my case the old boiler room attached to the house or 'room of requirement').

When ordering from Europe to the UK I'm afraid you will now suffer from higher prices due to increased delivery charges and import duties. Straying a little off topic, it cuts both ways as the two suppliers of anthracite I wanted to use based in the UK who previously delivered to France no longer do so as it's no longer viable. Those 'must have' UK food stuffs suffer the same fate sadly.

Some people use it as hobby and some use it to get freebies nevertheless nothing wrong with both but hobbiest can get satisfaction by seeing the signal and others by watching channels.

Plasti-Kote is good stuff, but it can be expensive and you'll need more than you first think, and the "quality" of the finish is the last thing you need to consider! Therefore buy the largest and cheapest cans you can find as that's what I always do - usually from my local motor factors or places like Halfords!

I'm going to go with the T K brackets, is there any type of spirit level I should use to make sure the pole is at 90? Or could I use my phone?

I use a digital inclinometer and try to get the pole alignment accurate to 0.1 of a degree. Don't forget to check both front to back and side to side for vertical...

Used one for a few years without a problem, then it showed signs of backlash (which can be sorted). When I swapped over to the Laminas, I changed to a Clark-Tech which was rated for a slightly larger dish and had metal gears. That's given me no trouble.

Edit : The Laminas 1.2M weighs 6kg including the mount.
What is backlash?

I'm leaning towards the technomate 97cm solid (97cm x 90cm) as it will be under £50.

Are there any other limiting factors with this dish to be aware of?

Well, first off it's nothing to do with S&M......anyway moving right along

Due to the shearing force of the wind, the dish can produce a (sometimes) severe mechanical play in the gearing of the motor. Backlash is the expression relating to this play.

I have no experience of Technomate dishes so can't comment about them....

Ah sorry, I thought you had meant you had a technomate dish, not a technomate motor.

LOL, not one I can add to the stash which comprises, Gibertini, Fracarro Penta, Triax, Laminas and two French 'Brico' warehouse dishes. The Technomate motor began to suffer from the aforementioned backlash issues after six or seven years of service. The current motor has metal gears...

Yes, as long as it's magnetic to stick to the pole, so your hands are free to make adjustments. I seem to remember mine was quite a bit cheaper, although it was a few years back...

"... I seem to remember mine was quite a bit cheaper, although it was a few years back."
That's about the going price for this sort of device ATM, of which there are many on Amazon (& eBay etc.) - though it may pay to read the reviews (especially the 1 & 2 star ones!) before chosing a particular one!

OTOH, a decent shortish spirit level with a magnetic base can also be used - it may or may not be as "accurate"!

Even better would be to have 2 such devices and set them at 90 degrees to each other on the pole - that way it should be possible to check how vertical (or not!) the pole is without moving the device by 90 degrees each time you adjust something.

Edited:
If possible, set the pole "vertical" without the motor/dish on it - and, if using T&K brackets, fit the K bracket first and quite loosely using only the top fixings, fit the pole, set it "vertical" and then fit the T bracket to keep it in that position, and finally, re-check the "verticality and then fit the lower fixing on the K bracket and tighten all the fixings.

Only, after all that, mount the motor & dish on the pole.

From what I read from what William-1 wrote sometime ago, (some??) Technomate dishes have the same type of declination adjustment as the older TRIAX dishes, i.e. could be a "3-handed" job.
