You should aim to get the best possible signal on the satellite closest to your longtitude which will depend on your location. I just used Thor though and my system works beautifully.

You must ensure
The pole is 100% vertical
That you fixed the dish to the motor centrally
Move the dish up and down / left and right until best signal is achieved

Give it another go but if you can't get it before dusk just temporarily fix your system to hotbird so at least you have something to watch. Go to alsat.co.uk and get the patch for your receiver and weather permitting get it spot on over the weekend.

If I'm around I'll help you as best as I can

Hi There i have just used your sticky thread for fitting motorized diah very very good thankyou very much, the only thing that puzzled me was the pointing at 1W did try this not sure if i did it correctly but i can get hotbird 13, astra 19.2 and eutelsat W2 16, what else should i be able to get with 85cm dish i am in bucks

Thanks Again

your a star

Very good articles thanks,

I think I may be 6 or 7 deg out, to east ?
I'm at 52 Deg North (Banbury Area) - and TM2200 motor instructions say the angle should be 38 Deg.

Having tried the AUto Find on the Dreambox7025 it picks up:
8 deg W - Telecom 2D
7 deg E - Eutelsat
13 deg E - Hotbird.

only got 300+ channels.

When going to around 21 deg E - it actualy looks similar angle to my normal sky dish.

How can you be sure which Sat you are pointed at?
Should I try rotating pole 6 Deg E ? and look for Thor?

So much better trying yourself.

Thanks.

Perform a satellite scan, or look at individual transponders, see what channels you are actually getting and compare them with what _http://www.lyngsat.com lists

Thor is your closest sat, i.e your nearest due south.
Send the dish there with the dreambox. Do a scan, and see if the channels you get are the
correct ones. If not, then find out which sat it is, and then swivel the motor round the pole accordingly.

Very nice info....

If you set up the USALS and drive to 1W, then when you fine tune the dish to 1W, it should be spot on.

THIS WILL WORK 100%

Thanks from DENMARK

Please,
Very great tutorial.
My location is Yaounde in Cameroon with coordinates: 3.8643°N, 11.2500°E. How do I locate my due South or nearest due South satellite which can aid me in mounting a jack and positioner for a 1.8m dsih? Thankx in advance.

Hi,

I have installed a new motorised system and can only receive one satellite 13E Hotbird. Let me explain what I did. I have installed a vertical pole whic I made sure it is well upright using a level. Fitted over my motor SG2100A and aligned it to true south (I do not have a compass and maybe I am a bit off !) installed the 90cm dish on the motor and aligned all straight forward. Adjust the elevation and Lattitude to my location as per the instructions within the motor manual. I live in Malta in Marsascala which is at the very South of the island. My Lat and Long are E14.56 and N35.87. Ther motor elevation scale is set to 55 and the latitude scale reads 35. The dish elevation reads 26 approx. Using the startsat tuned to Hotbird could receive the hotbird channels strongly as this should be my highest satellite which is very close to my longitude. But tried to get Astra1D or Badr and no signal received. Appreciate any help in setting up my system. Have read many posts but none seem to work for me.

Just want to say thank you for this guide, I setup my dish setting the motor to 0 then aligning with Thor 1W and the arc just wasn't spot on. Then I changed to UALS and did what this guide said, drive to Thor 1W then get align the dish and it's perfect!
