I've not seen one of these in the garden before, in flight it has a really bright orange underbody.

SWMBO bought some lillies but now does not like them, I think they are ok provided the stamens do not get a chance to stain anything, I think they are Belladonna lillies

All I can see ( and I suspect this might be the case for others - hence no replies) is a tomato plant :confused

If not tomatoes then maybe flowers on a potato plant?

Similarly baffled.

Nope, they are on a potato plant, but I do understand why one would think that, indeed I was somewhat confused when I first saw them on my now 6ft tall new potato plants which have now flowered. Believe it or not these are what are produce in a very healthy potato plant after flowering. Depending on what pollen they were fertilized with, these seed potatoes may well be a different variety of potato to what was originally planted. I understand they take much longer to develop into ordinary potatoes that will produce a crop, they are not however edible.

Unless you're intending to plant the seeds to see what different variety you might have, you should pinch the flowers off as soon as they appear. This is so that all energies from the plant are directed into producing tubers rather than wasted on producing fruit.

Yes of course Paul, just like roses, I have been doing just that and out of eight plants only two have flowers and it was only the height stopping me reaching to pinch them out, they are at a height of 9ft so I am curious to know what will develop on just one of them, after all we do not want giant new potatoes, just small ones.

Just been on a narrow boat, did half the Cheshire Ring from Middlewich to Manchester Piccadilli, with a detour to Wigan Pier in full knowledge it is totally under development/reconstruction.
We collected some close friends on our journey especially when we were eating.

Racing pigeon made a 24hr pitstop in the garden, possibly tired from flying in the very strong winds. He's returned a few times to eat from the bird table so must be enjoying his new found freedom.
