Kosmos 2004 & a piece of some Chinese rocket are heading for a near miss.

K2004 (1989) is inactive so no chance of a boost to get it to safety

The two objects in question are quintessential space junk. One is the rocket stage of the first Chang Zheng (Long March) 4B rocket that was launched back in 1999 and has a weight of about 2 tons. The other is a defunct Russian military satellite from the Parus fleet used for communication and navigation, weighing 825 kilograms (1,819 pounds).

1.2Mtr Polar MTG yes it has been on the arc for 25 years and is now fixed on 13 East using two pairs of rusty molegrips. Unlike me they never groan but always perform.

They missed each other anyhow, some sites say by meters by a long way

Nearly missed it? Should be near hit, or near collision.

I know, semantics. Just in that mood today :D

Well someone has to wear the pedants hat I suppose:rolleyes:but the point is that unless someone is on-site, to give an objective and accurate assessment, it is all guesswork as nobody knows how near or how far, the information supplied is only as good as the calibration of their instrumentation.

A near miss is a miss, unless it isn't.
