I personally usa a Dell Latitude E6410 laptop with builtin SmartCard reader

Hello everyone,

I am currently in process of setting up the whole TV, data and phone infrastructure in my house I have recently finished building...
I would like to discuss with you guys some aspects regarding the TV infrastructure/setup.

Here is some starting info:
  • There is one terrestrial TV provider in my area offering digital cable TV services. As far as I discussed with a representative, they offer only some external HD or SD decoders which output to the TV through HDMI respectively SCART
  • I have a Samsung P2770HD monitor with integrated HDTV and I want to use the internal receiver instead of the dumb external SD HUMAX decoder.
My Samsung TV device has a CI slot and I was thinking I could buy a CAM in order to still watch the scrambled channels without using their external decoder...
  • I have been trying to search the web in order to find out which CAM and card to use in order to replace the HUMAX external decoder
  • The provider won't offer its customers internal CAMs and neither do they provide any technical info regarding the signal transmission/scrambling/encryption etc...
My question is:
Is it any way possible to replace the dumb HUMAX and use the integrated decoder + CAM + Card?
If yes then which CAM, Card and procedure would you recommend?

Many thanks in advance to all

PS: Apologies if my post describes a similar issue with other posts, however my issue is a bit different from what I found so far :)

What country are we talking about? "I live in an area where the air is so fresh it tickles your nose" is not hugely helpful as an answer could differ from one country to another.

Exactly guys :)
Thanks for the quick replies
The provider's name is RDS and it offers a package called "Digi TV"

I was just researching on the web...
Am I guessing right that using CAS3+ interface and Diablo 2 CAM might help me to achieve this?? :)

Digi TV is Nagra 3 encrypted. You may well need the proprietary box for that one.

Digi tv cable service in romania is Nagra2 in some places and Nagra3 in others .
Did you plug the cable in the back of the tv and did a scan yet ? Analogue cable service should work without a cam/card .
These are needed for the digital service .
It depends also which area of Romania you're in as it's different everywhere .
Also some people report that a cam/card use to work anyway , Trex , Diablo and Dragon but with a Nagra2 card .
You need to ask these question on a more local level to you as this is a specific subject not many peeps will know much about it .
Good luck .

Now we need to know WHICH Digi Tv we are talking about - Digi TV Romania via satellite or a Digi TV cable service.

If its the latter its outside the remit of the forum - in fact its specifically forbidden in our rules to discuss cable tv issues..

I tried plugging in the cable directly in the back of the TV and most of the channels (including somoe HD) can be seen without the need of a decoder, but some are scrambled. The contract I want to sign includes subscription to these channels, too :)

I wonder if there is any possibility to see these details (whether it's a Nagra2 or Nagra3 card) somewhere in the status menu of the default box they offer...

Actually we are talking about a cable service, not satellite. :)
This is why I will follow the rules and won't ask questions specific to cable TV services.
I will concentrate now on the pure technical stuff with programming the CAM and so on... Maybe you can point me in a direction to start with :)

One thing is still not clear to me... Does my TV (Samsung P2770HD) have limitations regarding the CAM which can be connected to it??
The manufacturer does not specify any info about this...
