Hi all,

I am thinking in getting a new box for Cristmast and I would appreciate any advice you can give.

My actual box is a Cristor Atlas DH100. I bought it 8 years ago and is still working fine with the 5 sats I get at the moment, 28,2º, 19,2º, 13º, 7º, 0,7º

My aim is to get as much as possible for a 150€-200€ budget but image quality would be the most important for me.

I am also interested in learning somenthing about "multistream" and maybe catching some music feeds...

I have seen the VU+ ZERO 4K but I don´t know if it would suit my aims...

Can anyone help? Thanks

Multistream involves satellite channels combined on a single transponder, and, I think, requires a DVB-S2X tuner, to separate them.
I'm not sure that there are many multistream options, on the satellites you've listed.
Feed hunting is completely different, to multistream, and often requires a sensitive tuner, and a large dish, as these feeds aren't generally meant for normal satellite viewers, I can't even get some on a 1.2M channel master, so location is also important.
You might want to get a 4K receiver, and there are many on the market, well within your price range, it just depends on other aspects, like multiple tuners, ability to record to an internal, or external, hard drive, USB stick or other source.
If you are used to Enigma 2 receivers, then these offer many other possibilities, like streaming, networking, and accessing your receiver from practically any location.

Edision OS Mio 4K multistream, moultiboot, DVB-T2 tunner is a better choice for you.
The channels in Spanish from 30°W will work fine with Enigma2.

Ok, I have been reading about enigma 2 and it is similar to the dreambox I used to have years ago, I suppose it is because are Linux boxes.

But I have some doubts:

Are the images for E2 the same for all E2 boxes? If not, which boxes are the ones with more support?

When you buy a box comes with an image? If so, when you change it with a different one, the image quality varies? I mean, does the image affect the image quality or is it only a hardware matter?

Thanks!

Images vary, but only slightly, it's like choosing which version of Linux to run on your PC.
When you get a receiver it generally arrives with the manufacturers image, you need to try various images, to see what you like.

But do the images affect to the image quality? I mean, do one perform better than other in terms of image quality? I suppose not or maybe just in the menus
I ask this to know if I should buy an "expensive" box or a "cheap" one. It would not be worthy to buy a "good" box if after buying you are going to install a new image with a poor image quality.

Anyway I should think this is a matter of hardware instead of software but if you could clarify...

Thanks!

You can install 4 images to Edision OS Mio 4K and boot any time from anyone of them = multiboot.
Atlas HD 200 has big problems with it's image quality, not Mio 4K.
You can also buy the cheaper

And the image quality depends on the image you have boot or is it just the same with any of the 4 images you have installed?

Different Enigma2 'distributions' will not matter for image quality, most use the same drivers provided by the manufacturer, but the quality of the hardware will matter.

Multiboot is mostly useless in real life and only useful at start and if you don't know what enigma2 flavor you want.
An advanded Linux STB will mostly be up and running most of the time, you need it for live streaming, access recordings, timers, EPG, you can do all that remotely (LAN or WAN)

What will mostly differ is graphical interface and what it will have by default.

A couple examples that I can give you based on my experience:
- OpenPli is very fast and lightweight and let the user decide if he needs to add (plugins) more features or not. The problem is that when you start installing plugins you can break the system easily, in the past I had a lot of problems with this (frequent freezes/crashes after installing plugins that actually add very important features. (Auto timers, background (continuous timeshift, EMPlayer...))
Then I switched to OpenATV
- OpenATV comes with many of those features already integrated in the default image, for me I only needed a few extra plugins, and the crashes/freezes I had were fixed.
It also support a lot of boxes.

So, I personally recommend OpenATV, but will depend on the STB if you are going to have problems or not. I recommend you don't choose cheap hardware, you will probably regret it later. I also highly recommend multi tuner (satellite) capable receiver.

If you are not familiar with Linux receivers, it will require some learing to squeeze everything out of them, there's a lot they can do, but for basic usage I think it's pretty easy to set up, then you will learn everyday.

You will find that the Octagon SX88+ is an excellent receiver for all HD & Multi-Stream broadcasts,
I will be issuing a new channel list in a few days time that you will find here :-

AND, Octagon support appears to provide more, and more reliable, f/w updates and improvements - and thus "some other" brands (e.g. "Edision"?) might well want to "take note" thereof ?:D

Well everyone complains about HD TV quality here in the UK or use to, surely it can't be worse in Spain ?! With a new modern tv with its clever digital processing it can make even SD TV acceptable. Perhaps the 55 inch in the French hotel was a fairly modern tv ?

Thanks mate, Octagon SF 8008 has been also recomended which I think suits me better because turner is more sensitive for fringe reception compared with Edison.

No idea if your lists would be also posible for this model but first I need a motor :)

The only issue if the SF 8008 is that only has 1GB Ram, but to be honest I dont know if this Is a problem.

I have checked in the manufacturer website
DVB-S2X 4K UHD y Multistream

I just doubt if 1GB of Ram would be a problem in the future. The vu+ comes with 2GB

Didn't know it only has 1gb but it works well. Yes has multistream capability but you have to manually enter the values etc unlike with the sx88+
