can this package be used commercially in the uk ie in pubs ect.as they are using it down my local.

Due to copyright laws, this package can only be purchased in Greece or Cypress.
Just like Sky UK and any other foreign package like TPS, Canal Satellite, Showtime, Arabesque, etc.

There is a "black Market" whereby smartcards can be sold with a high rip of factor of 50%-300%
It would not be wise to use it commercially in public places like pubs.
So tell your locals to be careful.
Some countries allow their nationals overseas to subscribe to their national package, on a personal use only, like SRG (Switzerland), but I am not sure about Greece.

Multichoice Hellas on the one hand does not sell subscriptions outside Greece but they make a lot of profit of Greeks having it in Europe or the Middle East. Almost all use an address of a relative/friend in Greece. MC forbids the export of the card but who can control this ? I haven't heared of any case that a card was disactivated just because it wasn't used inside GR. But showing it in a public area is different. I wouldn't dare to do this.

I don't mind if MC is making profit on their legitimate smartcards (in my opinion, it is too expensive to start with compared to other packages), but it is the inflated price that people are asked to pay if they don't have a relative in Greece. The extra money goes to these shop owners pockets, not to MC.

BTW, I heard some scary stories few years ago that if a tourist leaves the country and they search him and find a Nova smartcard on him, he either goes to prison or is fined a lot of money.

It's not true. Their is not such a law in Greece. Furthermore, who cares? Do you think that the police officers in the airports are interested in finding smartcards?

Let's say that someone leaves Greece with a smartcard in the wallet, near to the credit cards. How can they be discovered?

Yes I agree there not such a law. A lot of apartments for example are sharing 1 card either legal or .... So if its not for selling and for your own house everywhere there is no problem....

Thank you tesla and zaras27 for clarifying this point, and as I said I heard it few years ago and didn't keep the reference.

My channel list for nova lists channels R1-> R15. Theres no epg or info on whats being shown. This is frustrating in that they seem to be premium paytv channels. Is there anywhere I can get programme list/start times for these channels?

I think that they are probably just test channels.
All the premium paytv channels, if any, should be shown in the website.

You can test them yourself using the bitrate monitor plugin (even without opening the channels) with your Dreambox 7020S and see if they have any video and audio traffic.

I suggest you edit your service list and remove the R1-R15 services. These services are used for rebroadcasting.

These services are received and then transmitted to UHF/VHF.
R1 and Filmnet1 have the same content although they are different services.

Filmnet1 is available to subscribers. For that reason, there is programme list available. R1 is received only in the rebroadcasting sites.

R2: this service has no content at all

R3: Mega
R4: ant1
R5: Star
R6: Alter
R11: Supersport1
R12: Jetix
R13: alpha tv
R7: ET-3
R8: ET-1
R9: NET
R10: Mad TV
R14: Makedonia TV
R15: Skai TV

looking for suitable satellite setup to received greek TV

Corfu, Greece
HI, I am new to this and don't know much about satellites etc. However, I have just moved house and where we have moved to the ordinary Greek TV is really poor quality. We are on an island and don't have cable access as yet. Is there a way with a received and dish to access just the main Greek channels? I am not fussed about all the Nova package .

any helpful comments happily received !

Hi Sarah,

In which village are you ? There are places on the island that have easier terrestrial reception conditions and others that not. The 2 major transmitter locations are Pantokratoras and Gonia (the hill between Igoumenitsa and Plataria on the mainland).

Cable TV does not exist anywhere in Greece.

Over satellite from the bigger networks that are worth to watch the only one that is for free is SKAI. The rest is encrypted and only to get over Nova. Minimum subscription cost 29.90€/month.

I recommend to look in your surrounding to which location the arials look and why not ask people how their terrestrial reception is.

Best regards.

thanks for those replies . I am in Acharavi which is almost just below Pantokrator hence the poor signal. Sometimes the channel is OK and then Italian programmes start coming through !

Will see what else I can find out about these.

thanks
Sarah

I don't know the exact coverage situation in Acharavi but i have been there some years ago so i know the geomorphology. Nice place but for terrestrial TV not ideal as you write. Maybe when the analogue switch off will be reality things probably will become easier. But when this will be nobody knows for sure. Theoretically from the beginning of this month they could start but in Greece as you know everything is done in the last second or never. The EU has set the limit for 2015. And digital transmission does not guarantee interference free watching. Not only the Italian multiplexes are strong but Albania is a quick developing market much quicker than Greece so if your region will be ever covered well nobody knows. The only chance for clear reception of all channels is satellite but Nova still rules the country.

Ok listen Sarah, I've asked also here: http://www.satleo.gr/forum/viewtopic.php?p=92614#92614

mcelliot_g recommends either a higher place for your aerial towards Pantokratora or try further West to catch the local transmitters from Roda. You should be able to get them except of you're located deep in a narrow hill/valley. Be prepared to have surely problems with the Italians especially in summertime when you consider to align your antenna to Roda. Troumpeta could be also a choice towards the Southwest but it's very unlikely that signals pass through to you. But if you catch ANT1 on UHF44 then you've got it.

Look forward to hear your results. Greetings to my home island :)

P.S.: With the help of g.thanasias in the thread above here are some frequencies that will help you to locate Roda:

MEGA 54
SKAI 24
STAR 60
ALPHA 22
ALTER 33

Let me tell you.

Hotbird 7A, 8 (13E)
Except from the channel of Greek Parliament, all are scrambled. They are available from Nova's Basic package (no movies, no sports) at the cost of 30 euros.
All the primary greek channels, the greek state owned ET-1, NET, ET-3 and Mega, Ant1, Star, Alter, Alpha, Mad TV, Makedonia TV and Mad Greekz are available.

Hellas Sat 2 (3rE)
OTE has a transponder at this satellite. In this transponder you can find ET World (state owned channel). It is fta but it doesn't have always the same content with NET. Some events of NET are not allowed to be transmitted FTA. The other channels are not as good as those in 13E.

At a lot of places of Greece the local aythorities install low power UHF transmitters in order to improve the reception and the availability of greek channels. They receive the signal from the satellite. They use smartcards given to them by the channels. Perhaps, it must be done the same at Corfu.

Which part do you not understand snake ?

The thread is about greek TV. There is just one pay tv provider called Nova. Nova Hellas does not have cypriotic stations and Nova Cyprus no stations based in Greece.

Here is both: http://www.flysat.com/nova.php

The last posts were about terrestrial reception in Corfu island since not everybody wants to spend 29.90€ or even more just to watch the state and private stations in good quality.
