Until someone here tests one we will not know,
The 8008 claims to have a working blind scan that the 4008 does not have atm.

The Amiko A5 is out with dual boot, might be worth a look too...

Is there any way to make the OpenATV image compatible for Octagon SF 8008 on Octagon SF 4008? I have tried this but the receiver remains in "booting..." and does not continue, I had to reinstall the backup.

Totally different platform. It won't work.

Is this the first Enigma2 box with Hisilicon Hi3798MV200 Huawei chips? If so, there might be some bugs in drivers.

Check this box out, it has the Hi3798MV300 chip

Ustym 4K PRO – uClan.tv

Looks like the same carcass as the Octagon SF80008, not sure how similar the functionality and specification is to an Octagon SF8008?

Recent message from Octagon to me "openvix image ready too"

Nice to see that the Blind Scan works with the Open Source image,

Will the Blind Scan work with Openvix ??? as I have tried this on other receivers & no blind scan,

So apart from Open Source what other images will the Blind Scan work with ?

I'm guessing here, but I would say that blind scan is in the image rather than a plug in. I doubt other images will have blind scan, but I could be wrong. In my experiences with E2 images, Open ATV blind scan has given me the most success.

More or less, enigma2 blindscan requires a binary file to communicate with the tuner, and a blindscan plugin for the user interface.

SF8008 Blindscan is the same format that enigma2 has been using for about the past ten years. Download, then unpack the SF8008 OpenATV image and you will find a file named octagon-blindscan located in /usr/bin. You will also find the blindscan plugin located in usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/SystemPlugins. Sounds simple enough, but the file in usr/bin for the Octagon blindscan is Closed Source.

Exactly, just one pure file, but closed sourced and only compatible with this receiver. This is actually shameful to all other manufacturers that use Silabs tuners, same tuner but no blindscan is criminal!
Anyway, if someone gets an SF8008 could test and try the bin file with SF4008 and see if blindscan is enabled (probably not).

I don't think that will work. SF8008 and SF4008 have differents socs, first from HiSilicon and second from Broadcom. Then there is the manufacturer level that get's source code from soc manufacturer, adjusts it for own needs, actives or codes new features needed. Octagon orders these boxes from these manufacturers with a feature set it wants, it does have own box factories. My guess is that Octagon does no make box software, it buys it from these manufacturers. It tried to get blind scan for SF4008, but the manufacturer has not been able to do it, but the manufacturer for SF8008 has been able to do it, like DreamBox has. Octagon worked with Enigma2 coders to make the user interface for blind scan, so it is open source can be adapted to other boxes that have drivers that support this user interface. Different images for SF8008 (oatv, openvix) have the same drivers that come from Octagon and the open source user interface for blind scan. We will see if that transponder selection will be added to the old enigma2 blind scan plug-in. My Gigablue Quad uses this software blind scan plug-in, but it is not very good finding channels. I use my openbox sx4 for blind scanning.

Enigma2 boxes are not really open source, when we get down to hardware level. It's these so called drivers that come from the manufacturer that communicates with the hardware, they are not open source. There are not many soc manufacturers or box makers that have made enigma2 drivers for their socs, Broadcom, HiSilicon, STi (old socs, the new ones have not like the one used in Openbox SX4 or 6) and Wetek.

Octagon made hardware bind scan interface for SF8008, can we persuade it to make a spectrum analyzer? Crazyscan supports SiLabs tuners and demods, so drivers need interface to them and somebody that can code the userinterface.

Octagon does not have a factory that makes set top boxes. Whoever manufactures the box for Octagon is responsible for the blindscan. uClan Ustym is similar and it would be expected that it will have a blindscan too. Entries for the SF8008 and uClan have been added to the blindscan plugin. See lines 837 and 840 in the link.
oe-alliance/oe-alliance-plugins

The blindscan plugin that shows a list of found transponders, and is seen in the SF8008 screencaps may also be used in other receivers that are blindscan capable. All that is needed to do this is to unpack the SF8008 image, copy the blindscan folder, then install it by writing over the original blindscan folder in an OE Alliance image for your receiver that is enigma2 blindscan capable. The blindscan plugin is open source, and many different modifications can be made to it.

The SF8008 file to make the tuner blindscan that is located in /usr/bin cannot be used in another receiver. This file is closed source, and is only designed to work in the receiver that it was made for. There may be a way around this where the blindscan binary file would work in a different make/model of receiver, but I would have no idea on how to accomplish that.

The SF8008 and uClan Ustym may possbily be made in the same factory and be almost identical except for the branding and the price?

It looks that way. The Ustym image right now at OpenATV has the same blindscan plugin as the SF8008. I am sure there will be slight differences in the two receivers, but more or less the same.

Some screen shots of the blindscan on the SF8008, seems to be working well, the absolute control over the parameters is a bonus.
Also through WEBIF 4.2.2 is also no problem. Everything else is as any E2 box really.
Getting used to E2 quirks again, I have not owned a E2 box since the AZBox daysBS1.jpgBS2.jpgBS3.jpgBS4.jpgBS5.jpgWebIF.PNG422-Capture-compressor.jpg
