Hi,

I unearthed four ancient electrical meters from a pile of junk in the loft and wondered if anyone recognised any of them?
Are there any auld coffin dodgers on 'ere who are old enough to know anything about them?

More throw aways, however I cant really stretch to claiming any credit points for this lot.

Pics attached below.

Items left to right 1 to 5
1 & 3 - Old school multimeters for those who like to see a needle twitch (probably wavy line men)
2. What we in the old school electrical contracting trade called a 'Megger' , used for low ohm reading tests and 500v for insulation / cable tests - iv'e still got mine but not NCB.
4 & 5. some really old school crt tv component testers (Llew will have some of these), would be better to donate to a collector or museum, would be a shame to scrap them

@John

Thank you for the identification.

They have been in my loft museum for decades, I will put them in the boot of the car until the next visit to the local tip.
I got told by the geezer manning the gate at the tip "only one visit per day sir", he had spotted me one day when I did a few trips.

scandalous - like they charged me to dump some rubble - no wonder why fly tipping is such a problem

If it still works I would save the megger from the dump as it will make a good worm collector for when you go fishing...Or sell it to someone who does.

Two mental poles stuck several feet in the ground with the megger attached to them, then a few good cranks on the megger and poof you will have worms for bait. (if the ground has earth worms in it that is)

I've still got #2 & it works (needs a new battery) no need to crank anything. @Terryl got me thinking, how about 2 floating metal pans & bypass the worms. Used to know a bloke from SW UK who used to go fishing with some plastic explosive....aargh.. no fun in that.

When I was an apprentice at Marconi, I did a stint at GEC Mobile Radio in the long hot summer of 1976.

We tackled the flying insect problem in the main workhop by connecting a megger across the tracks of a large offcut of veroboard smeared with jam ....... very satisfying!

The only problem with that method is that the fish too close to the blast turn to mush on the inside, I don't like fish paste.

Jam and insect sandwiches or spread on toast?
