I have 2 Sky boxes - Skyplus HD and Sky HD
and 2 Humax Freesat boxes

Orignal Sky Quad LNB was upgraded to Octo LNB when we installed Freesat boxes 11 years ago 2 cables run to each box

I'm told that we will need a wideband LNB which Sky will install if we move to SkyQ

Will the HUMAX Boxes work with the wide LNB - what are the practicalities of this? Do we need to get 2 new Freesat boxes?

thanks - Hope that this is in the correct forum!!!

Tell sky that use your dish for freesat too on two boxes and that you require 4 legacy feeds. They will then give you a wideband lnb, ideally the EL028; which has 2 wideband ports for Sky Q and 4 legacy ports. That's what I have too.

How many rooms are you planning to have Sky Q and the miniboxes in?

It's in 2 rooms

Just read up on Q
Not sure about getting Sky Q.... We'd be trading 3TB of Storage for 2TB of Storage with lots of bigger files. Plus unable to move stored programmes over.. Sky seem useless......

If you do go for Q, you could pay £49 for an extra mini box and have Sky in 3 rooms, as you’ll be paying the multi room subscription anyway.

The only main advantages of Q are that you can have a mini box in any room without needing a connection to the dish, and you get 4k picture.

Sky Q has both advantages and disadvantages, but one of the main advantages is that you can watch recorded content on any of the boxes and set up recordings as well, so whilst you may have a smaller hard drive, you possibly won't need so much storage, plus a lot of people record stuff which is on catchup anyway.

The only caveat is that only the main sky Q box supports 4K your limited to HD on the mini boxes.

If you have a large property, or one with thick walls, another caveat is the wifi signal will need a lot of fettling for the Q minis to function.

No. The only way to get 4K Sky on a multiroom box is to downgrade to Sky Glass, which I would not recommend to anyone at this point.

You may be fine but when I had Q installed and a mini box in 3 rooms, I quickly discovered that my existing Deco mesh system was not fully compatible with it. A read up on the Sky forums seemed to confirm this. In the end I bought 4 x cheap powerlines on flea bay and connected to the second ethernet port on my Sky Hub. This works a lot better in my setup.

I could not understand what sky glass was /is, the sky website is a complete waste of time. Do you have a link to a decent explanation of Sky Glass??

It is Sky via IPTV, or as one youtube video said "jazzed up Now TV". Fewer channels, no recording and a requirement to subscribe to various TV channels' apps to watch non-live content. You also have to buy a mid-range television which lacks several functions. There are many problems, especially with the multi room 'puck' boxes. To be avoided, for now at least.

Is it possible to feed the classic freesat box with a wideband Lnb.. I think I know the answer

Yes, but you will get a few channels only.
Thanks

It would be a short term measure.. Whilst we got modern freesat boxes.

I'm going to raise a few scenarios when I'm on a PC

Thanks again

The wideband lnb only has the 2 outputs, so you wouldn’t be able to connect all your boxes to it without splitters/extra equipment.

Provided you tell sky beforehand, they’ll install a hybrid lnb for free.

I was having a few signal issues earlier this year and had booked in an engineer’s visit. I told them over the phone that I use both sky q and freesat and the engineer came with a brand new hybrid lnb (to replace my old one).
