Nearly 6 months down the line since the drive started failing & fingers crossed everything is working absolutely great on the box. Its not missed a beat since I replaced the hdd.

The missus is filling it up rapidly again with all the dross she likes to record. :-doh
ISTR, after about 6 months of fairly heavy use was when the replacement HDDs started falling in the box that I updated to 2TB myself AND the similar one that I then bought !

Quyick update on this for anyone in the same situation. The WD purple hard drive has continued to work flawlessly in the Sky box, The missus has filled 95% of the hdd drive capacity up despite my warnings :-doh

If the bloody thing blows up again Im not fixing it. I shall cancel the Sky subs & get a freesat recorder!!

Look at what she and the kids have recorded, and especially from the channels that aren't on Freesat - and then "point out" to them that if you decide to cancel the Sky subs then then they won't be able to watch any of those channels OR also any of the recordings that they've already made!

Maybe that might convince them to heavily "trim" all those recordings down to a relatively small number that they might actually want to watch/watch again?????

Now, on a happier note, I've just realized that I really should have wished my own DRX895 a "Happy 10th Birthday":-clap a few months ago because I got it from SKY in Jan 2013, and, - apart from several "hissy fits" caused mainly by pressing too many r/c buttons too quickly! - it's given virtually no trouble at all and still seems to run fine on the original HDD:D

Then again I do "baby it" a bit and don't let the HDD get more than about 1/2 full
