My Satellite Setup
60cm dish. Freesat with Humax box
My Location
Riberac, France
Hello,
I'm new to this site.
I live 30km south of Angouleme in France. I have a Freesat Humax box.
I am trying to align the dish for Astra 2 without success. 28.2E of south and elevation about 30 degrees.
Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks

Not sure if a 60cm dish is big enough for Angouleme - others will know.

The Satellite position is 28.2E, but that is not the Azimuth you require ..... see Dishpointer.

Also, if you have an offset dish don't point the dish face up 30 deg: If the offset is eg 25 deg, then the dish face will be about 5 deg upwards.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!

TBH, I would have thought that the elevation setting for Angouleme would be a lot higher!

OTOH, from what I have read here and elsewhere, I agree that one would need a much larger dish than a 60cm one to get Astra 2 in the Angoleme area.

The Humax is probably looking for the Freesat home transponder 11426H which is on the UK beam for which, as others have said, a 60cm dish is too small. It will be big enough for channels on the European beam. You may have better luck if you can put the receiver in non-Freesat mode.

Are you using a meter of any kind?

You might be able to get the Europe KU band, in Angouleme in France, which should help you to align your dish, and get the LNB skew correct.
Are you using a satellite meter, to help you align your dish?

Beaten to the punch, by ozumo, even a very cheap satellite meter is extremely useful, when aligning your dish:

Being south of Nantes requires at least a 100cm dish for the UK beam.

Thanks everybody. I'll give it another go tomorrow and let you all know how it goes. I have a basic satfinder, like Mickha showed.

I agree with William. Here in Normandy, I'm using an 80cm dish and the signal goes in heavy rain.

Here is a site that will help you determine if your dish would be big enough to receive the satellite your looking for.

Code:
https://www.satbeams.com/footprints?norad=25462

Just select the region your in and zoom into your location, then select the correct beam and click on your location, this will give you the estimated dish size and pointing information.
