hey guys
finally signed up to this site, should have done years ago.
been a member of many other sat sites since 2004 - but i always find this one to be most techincal and useful.
i have a gibertini 1m dish, which is a decent dish, i also have a triax td110 - not sure if i'd get better gains with that one or not....its in storage...so my first question - does anyone know if the gibby 1m is better than the Triax Td110.

second question, do i sell both, and plump for the the gibertini 1.25 or the LAMINAS 120CM OFC ....? the current setup \ dish is mounted above gutter line on a kitchen extension (TM 2600 motor) - so not too high up, and i have decent access to it for swapping \ fiddling about.

will i see much gain from going from decent 1m dishes to a decent 1.2?

i only want to go down the diseq motor route - nothing else, and i appreciate the weight factor, but i've read of people using these two 1.2m dishes on DSQ motors without issue, even i have to replace motors every 3 years or so, there so cheap, i dont mind replacing motors from time to time....

opinions pls!!!

thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum @manikm909 ! :-welcome

does anyone know if the gibby 1m is better than the Triax Td110.
If you measure the working area of those dishes you will find out they are same, so same antennas provide same performance.

i only want to go down the diseq motor route - nothing else, and i appreciate the weight factor,
It is not always the weight issue but issue of surface and therefore wind-resistance of the system. I personally think it is possible to have 1.2m antenna on Diseqc engine, especially if you are ready to change the engine each couple of years and after each serious storm :D

thanks !

do you think theres much to gain from moving from a gibby 1m to a gibby 1.2 ? theres also two models, a
OP 125 LP
and a
OP 125 L

different arms....but thats all i can tell - i do know that some adujstment is needed on the bracket to make it fit the MOTOR mount...

i dont think the Lamina's requires modification...so this would be more appealing to me, although not a show stopper....there are other generic 1.2m dishes ive seen on auction sites, i.e maxx digital \ prime sat and the like - but cant find out much about them

Bigger is always better. With bigger antenna you will have greater rain-margin and maybe catch satellite signals which is hard or even impossible to receive with 1m antenna system.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
OP 125L "V" arm is probably "more rigid" than the single one on the OP 125 LP. Either way, they are quite long arms and certainly quite a bit longer than the TD110 - I have both that and a 125L on DiSEqC motors, and the 125 L arm needs no additional stabilization, whereas that on the TD110 arm is certainly "more stable" after addition of braces to either side of the dish face.

FWIW, the Gibby certainly appears to provide "more" SS and SQ than the TD110 did on the same motor - both were set up by the same experienced person (Channel Hopper) about a year apart (the TD110 in 2018, and then the Gibby in 2019)

Not sure what you define as a 'show stopper' but I've been very happy with my Laminas since installing it some years ago. Apart from occasional cleaning, the dish shows no sign of wear and the mount, no sign of rust. It's fairly easy to adjust and has been running on the same Clark Tech motor for at least five years without a problem.

sorry i meant i'd prefer NOT to have to mess with the mounting bracket, which i would have to do on a Gibby 1.25 - as the clamp is not for motor mounts.

i dont think any modification is needed on the Laminas 1.2 to go on a motor....is there?

next question, does anyone know the difference between the two Laminas -
ofc1200 and the OFC-1200G and OFC-1200P

???

To mount the OFC 1200 on a standard motor, no. It goes straight on.

The OFC 1200 P and G have the square section LNB feed arm (probably better than the tripod arrangement on the 1200 that I have). The 1200G has a de icing heater in the dish. Don't forget these are manufactured in Poland. Link to the Laminas website : LAMINAS. Products

What exactly do you think you are missing in terms of reception with the 1m ?

nothing specific mate - i like to feed hunt, as sometimes i get disappointed when i cant get a signal from the 1m, in the back of my mind, i always think i wonder if i had a decent 1.2m if i would be able to get it....

Name some channels/feeds, since it could be you wouldn't get them with an average 1.2m setup either

its more feeds than channels per se - like last Saturday there was a wrestling event, i knew the feed existed, in fact my receiver picked it up in the scan, but wouldnt return it afterwards, i.e couldnt quite lock it in....hence a 1.2m probably would have done.

1.2 is the limit for me, so may as well do it...i couldnt go any larger, without opting for a ground mount system, and i'd have to run cables a long way if i did....

Keep an eye out for a Fibo, or branded Gregorian dish, you will need to modify to fit on a motor but it will outperform other dishes of the similar size if set up correctly.
