Finally found a couple of hours, of dry weather, to dismantle the dish and drill the two holes. It has improved performance, as now the dish is properly supported, I haven't had time to fine tune the arc, using the incredibly awkward adjuster mechanism, but by just adding the 2 extra bolts, for support, I have improved signal quality, on all satellites, and got it tracking from 39E to 1W, all I've been able to try so far. It has also cut down the noise, I could hear the dish slightly moving, due to insufficient support, when the motor moved previously.
The clouds rolled over just as I was re-assembling the dish, so good timing.
I'll eventually get round to fine tuning but at least it's working correctly now.

I certainly found the declination adjustment awkward Mickha. I had to loosen all bolts on the two extension brackets and physically push the dish up from the bottom of the Gibby, tighten all bolts except the ones that join the top declination plate, to allow 'down' adjustment of the declination.

I just about found time this week between the rain, the fog, more rain, night time, some more rain and a howling gale to get the dish up and tracking properly. As expected everything is up across the board going from a 1m to a 1.25m apart from 68E which is down. I think this proves my LOS is very marginal, I've actually lowered the pole the dish is on so that the top of the 1.25 is at the same height that the 1m was at so either everything in bloom in neighbours gardens is now obstructing it or the greater surface area that ISN'T seeing the satellite has added noise to what is a very weak signal to begin with. Once the wind has died down I'll try raising the pole a foot and see what happens.

I'd appreciate some reports if anyone is using a 1.2 in the SE just so I can see how this compares on the marginal signals, on 36E I can get 12073 and 12245 sub Saharan beams, is this OK or should more be available? 26E, all bar two transponders on BADR-6, the others on that one seem to be strong enough to watch without breaking up. BADR4 and 5 are very strong, 12073 (my reference) is 98/100 SQ on the card. On 30.5E all I can get is Medi1 on 12625 and the occasional feed, none of the other stations on the Pan Arab beam lock, is that normal?

That's about as far as I've got so far, if there's any others that are useful tests please let me know. Won't be today though, the pole is guyed down and dish parked at 45E while this gale blows through.

No chance of me installing my Gibby 1.25 on the pole until the weather improves. I value my dish and various parts of my anatomy - my garage roof is too slippery.

When I do, I'll see how it compares with previous borderline signal strengths with my (now decommisioned) SMW 1.05 dish.

I can't remember it stopping raining, where I am, the garden, that I planned working on, when we had some sun, and I had free time, is once again under water, it's clay with practically no drainage.
Hopefully I can fine tune my dish in a few weeks, when the sun is out and the garden is dry !!!!!!!

It struck me the other day that the elevation control on the Moteck lends itself to being converted for inclined satellite tracking. It's not something I've dabbled with before so I've no idea what my options are. A short satellite actuator seems overkill really (apart from the strength) because it doesn't look like it needs much more than about 10mm movement each way and a six inch actuator adds a lot of unnecessary weight. If I do have to go down this route I'll drive it using 12V, it's easy to source in here and gives better control on fine tuning. So, is anything else available that's proven or do I just bite the bullet and get a 6" actuator?

Well, wonders never cease. I managed at last to get my Gibby up on the pole dexpite having to down tools too often because of the wind and rain.

I erected a temporary platform to make it easier to install, as I'm past the age to be hanging on to a ladder for this. Next stage is to align the dish to the arc.

Looks tidy on that motor. Is that the 1.25m? Maybe lower the pole a bit to reduce the flex? Depends on line of sight of course...

I'm amazed you found the time, it's pouring down here, my garden is under water and I'm just happy the dish, and motor, have survived the weather.
Without any fine tuning I'm getting 39E to 30W, so obviously the alignment is almost true, I'll wait for Summer before doing any fine tuning, maybe we'll have some sun in August !!!!
I was planning to go the bank, and do some other errands, before work, but the rain prompted me to forget that idea !!!!!

Yes, a 1.25M. If the motor doesn't survive inclement weather, I have a fallback with the originally intended polar mount/actuator. At least with a decent working area that can be put in place, it will be somewhat easier to install (they are heavy items). With the dish height as it stands, if my iPhone Dishpointer app is anything to go by, I should be able to 'see' quite a bit over 60E to 60W.

Well it's taken me two weeks just to get to this stage. I've had to run my brother back and forth to hospital in between because of diabetic complications, typically when the weather is fine!

Lovely job Llew, your Gibertini seems to have a different LNB collar to mine.

I am more than likely going to see if you can adapt my Channel Master polar mount for my 125.

Yes remlap, the LNB arm is a single length rather than the double arm you, and I think aceb has. Also the dish backplate is supposed to bolt straight on to a polar mount Az/El assembly, so when used with the Moteck, I just have the motor's elevation and declination adjustments.

Interesting. My old Gibby 1.25m also had a double arm.

Well mine was supplied by Simon at Sateuropa. I had asked for a dish with a suitable polar mount. Maybe there are two versions, the one I have and one with the Az/El backplate that you, Captain and aceb have?

I have the same dish as well as a friend who i installed for a couple of weeks ago its a HIRSCHMANN 1.25 which it seems Gibertini make the dishes for but with a single boom arm, Although the Gibertini name and logo are still etched into the rather solid looking LNB collar.

Ah yes, that's what the installation manual says - "Hirschmann Offset-Parabolantennen FESAT K-Serie"

I see what you mean by stamped into the LNB collar:

I like the rubber bolt boots and the use of wing nuts.

Yes, mine's almost the same, excepting for the Hirschmann logo on the dish, and the Az/El part came separate with the polar mount.
