I've been using a satellite system for quite a few years now mainly with sky boxes and laterly a Humax box. I would like to start down the road to having a multi LNB system with a motorised dish as the end result but want to start small and learn as I go along.

I have just installed a new dish and have dug out my old TM5402 to run alongside my Humax HDR1000S. I will set about re-installing the TM5402 and ask any questions in the sub-forum. In the short term I would like to be able to make more recordings of the freesat stations and then move on gradually to setting up the multi-lnb system as I progress.

Is it best to stick with what I have in terms of sat boxes or should I add something like a Foxsat HDR, TM-Nano SE M2 or Xtrend 8500.

TIA

@Penmore Hi mate & welcome to the forum, I would avoid anything by Technomate these days apart from maybe picking up one of their older receivers second hand ect as they are completely cr#p these days. I would also avoid the Xtrend receivers as from personal experience the Power Supply Unit components are of a sub standard quality for something that's to be in use everyday (My box was dead in 14 months, I repaired but not everyone will have the ability to solder ect). Any other questions just ask.

The older non Linux TM's such as the TM6902HD TM5402 M1 & TM5302 are OK but as mentioned above the TM Linux series have terrible software I speak from experience so avoid them.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
The TM 5402 (I have 2x M3 versions, but I read that the earlier M versions are better) can do a fairly decent job of driving basic DiSeqc switches, but not in cascaded mode, and of driving a steerable dish on a USALS mount, although it's not the best out there by any means and nor are the downloadable sat lists from TM anywhere near up to date - and I would stick with that to start with until you "get your feet under the table" (so to speak) with the current sat scene.
