Hi all,

I had Sky Q installed last week to replace a very old Sky HD box. The engineer changed the LNB to a wideband one. It's been working relatively fine since, but every now and again I'll notice signal artefacts on the screen. Not complete break up but at least several times a week. I wouldn't worry so much if it were heavy rain outside but this has only been with light cloud and wind.

I've just checked the signal screen and surprised to see the signal strength this low. Is it normal for it to be as low as this, or have I gotten too used to my 90cm reading around 80-95%? My old Sky HD box had around 70/80%. Is it normal for the wideband LNBs to read less? Did reach out to Sky already and they've said as long as the signal reads 'locked', they consider it acceptable. <_<

The way I see it if the service is breaking up, Sky are not providing the service you are paying for.

Just tell it doesn’t work at all and you’re going to cancel within the 14 day cooling off period.

And ask them to refund you as the service hasn’t worked.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
The SKY "engineer" probably fitted the new LNB quickly - but didn't bother to set the skew angle correctly to maximise the SQ!

In that case, maybe he didn't slide the LNB "back & forward" in the clamp to maximise the SS?

Did they replace the wires or reuse the old ones? I had sky comedown in april, as one of the readings was at 60 (I can’t remember know whether it was strength or quality to be honest). He replaced the wiring, as it was about 10/15 years old, and added a new lnb. It was 100/100 then, but the quality has dipped to 90 now.

Sky have some other rating to check the strength /quality. I think their scales goes up to 7 if I remember correct, and mine was at 6.

A few more good reasons for doing your own SKY installation - and doing it correctly!
