PaulR,

Why would you need Freesat PVR and a Digibox aswell?

Thanks

Have you any idea of spend as there are several pro options available?

Just finished a system where we had 3 hd boxes 1 sly box, aerial, fm and CCTV all fed threw the same system using sly eyes. HD over cat5 to each main room from one of the HD boxes. There were 16 points in total.

But definatley run 2 x Cat5 and 3 if you can to each room. Also think about home cinema etc etc

TBH I'm open to suggestions on this if it gives me benefits.

What did you have in mind?

I was going to run one cat 6 cable in each room to stream HD movies from the Home server...why do I need more? cheers....This is starting to sound very exciting. :)

Put everything in a comms room and feed the HD to each room via cat5 best option really as it gives you the most independance.

edit: sorry never spotted your reply,

The reason I say this is for either (a) Home networking (b) HD streaming (the companys say to run 2 x cables) They all have 2 x as far as i can see for HDMI over Cat5/6 if in Comms room

Also CAT6 has to be installed in a particular way or you will get lower quality than cat5 apparently.

Look at it this way your better off looking at it than for it.

Also remember that if you have stud walls to place a sheet of mdf or something similar in behind where u may want tvs installed on walls etc in bedrooms.

Its always the little things ppl forget

Depends on spend but as suggested above would seem logical looking at your drawings/plans.

Recording two channels whilst watching a third?

It's also the only way to watch Fiver on satellite.

Yep, may only be good if runs are 20mts or so in which case a Cat5e matrix may be better... but at a cost.

Of course there are cheaper options available :D

Well sending I.F to each point/zone would simplify and be a cheaper option.

MY mistake I thought you were on about HDMI. You should also install the IR system with Aerial, FM/DAB. Allowing the widest choice of channels etc.

I am about to run the Wf100 cable in. You know the Wf65 stuff already in shall I leave it in? Will it be useful for DAB FM and freeview if I decide to have that aswell..Or are the runs to long for UHF and wf65?

It seems abit daft taking out the wf65 if its alread in...Might come handy for something? I could just lable it wf65 and not have the HD stuff connected to it?

Thoughts?

Yes, why not leave it in. Less signal loss on VHf/UHf.

As most HD streaming units require 2 x cat 5/6. Also for the sake of a bit of cable I'd go mad and run everything I could ever think about running in.

I'd run 3 especially to main rooms.

Interesting thread - your lucky to be able to cable your own house (self build?), trying to move at the moment, and negotiating with builder to get some extra drops put in, I think they are using someone like the queen to install it based on the labour rate that must be required to run 10m of coax and fit a plate!

All cat cable has to be terminated cleanly at each end, the problem comes when you untwist the pairs too far from the termination and you get noise/interference. You want the pair to be twisted until the very last minute before it goes into the patch panel or wall plate.

Never heard of cat6 being any more susceptible to this than cat5, other than the toelrances may be a bit tighter due to the higher speeds supported.

Hey I'm back,

I guess I need a to get the dish up now and the quatrro LNB. Does anyone have any links to ones I could buy that will do the job? I rang a local satellite shop up yesterday and they didn't know what a quattro LNB was and said its a quad LNB or OCTO LNB..I said No we need a bigger dish and a Quattro LNB installed....I cam off the phone very confused and not very confident. Could someone just clarify for me?

Thanks

You were right - the satellite shop obviously wasn't very well informed - or just fitted $ly stuff (same thing!).

Quads and octos offer 4 or 8 outputs each of which can feed a satellite receiver.

A quattro is also four outputs but each one is a fixed frequency band/polarity i.e. Horizontal High, Horizontal Low, Vertcal High and Vertical Low. This HAS to be used wth device called a multiswitch which will then supply however many satellite receivers it has outputs for. A quad or octo can be thought of as a quattro with a built-in multiswitch if that makes things easier.
